Recently Purchased OLP

Hello all, I'm looking for some information on my newly-acquired OLP 5-string.

From what I've seen on eBay, I believe my bass to be a SR5. I've seen two exact copies of it, but I'm not sure how precise the description is.

The serial number that is on the neck is H05070885, but it looks like I have too many numbers compared to most serials I've seen in this forum. Help?

The neck shows "Headstock design trademark", "Licensed by Ernie Ball", etc.

I'd appreciate any info anyone can give me about the model, production year, etc. Thanks!

Edit: I understand my bass now. It is an OLP MM3, hence made in China, etc.

Another pre EB serial number

Hi Mike.

Unfortunately, there are no records for Pre-EB basses.

I have compiled a list over the years which you'll find:

HERE

As you'll see, the list is not exhaustive. Also, note that Music Man did not necessarily allocated serials to instruments in a chronological order. As a guestimation though, your Bass appears to be either late 1976 or early 1977.

For a more accurate indication of vintage, you'll find dates recorded on the neck heel and in the neck pocket on the body but the neck has to be removed to view them.

As to value, I suggest you follow the on-line Ebay auctions. It varies greatly depending on the instruments condition and whim of the market.

New to the forum. Can you add this one to your Pre EB Stingray serial number database. B009147. Maple body and neck. I bought it April 79 in Manchester UK but from pre EB descriptions and pics on the site I have dated it from July 78 - Nov 78. Neck says Nov 78 but the body date is too faded to read properly.

Still in good nick apart from a suspected blown pre-amp that's just happened.

Cheers

Hi.

New to this forum. I'd like to get some info on my recently picked up trans red/maple Stingray. My first 'Ray. :)
I was told it was made around '96 but I guess it's earlier due the fact that it has string mutes at the bridge.
The serial# is 40280.

Thanks
Martin

Welcome to the Forum and thanks for the info.

EB has replacement pre-amps which can be ordered through your MM Dealer. They are electricially the same. As you have to give your old one up in return, make sure the problem doesn't lie elsewhere.

I'd be very interested in learning more about my EB Music Man SR4...especially what color this exciting variety of red might be called. :D

Said to have been purchased originally at Veneman Music in the Washington DC area.

Serial #28020
Unfortunately, our records from that far back don't tell us a lot sometimes. It is labeled "Special" - which means that we made an undisclosed number of them for a short time, and the finish, unfortunately, does not have a name or description. :( However, a great bass I am sure nonetheless, built on 4/27/89 and indeed was sent to the old Veneman's Music Emporium (now a Guitar Center) in Rockville, MD.

I asked about my two basses some days ago and received an answer for one of them but not the second.

Can you help me with the date for this one, please.

S/N E50723: SR4 HS, rosewood fb, vintage sunburst, black pearloid pg
Think I gotcha on an earlier post. Sorry I was out all last week and fell behind!

Unfortunately we cannot help you on this one at all - it was licensed by EB but not made by us, so no records exist, at least not here. And OLP is discontinued, so any information on it is probably not available.

Hi Dan,

Can you give me the low down on 36876 - just bought it on ebay - it's a beauty - fretless SR4 in sunburst (now Honeyburst).

Thanks,
Don.
Very nice - the StingRay was completed on April 8 93, and shipped to the U.K.
