Randy, the body is most likely ash. There is a small chance it could be poplar, though. The only way to know for sure would be to remove the neck from the body and examine the bare wood in the neck joint area. This is not recommended unless you are really good at putting guitars back together again!

Oh, and your bass was completed on 6/07/01and was originally sent to a Guitar Center in Florida.

Ronnie-pas, welcome to the Forum. Your StingRay 5 was completed on June 07 2001 and was shipped to Guitar Center in Miami, Florida. The finish is Pearl Platinum, the neck maple with a rosewood fretboard, and the headstock was painted to match the body color.

Oh - and by the way the body wood is most likely ash, though there is a chance it could be poplar.

Weird - you are the second guy to ask about this same bass today. Check my response to Randy's post above.

Of course - this bass was built on 6/25/07 and was shipped to Instrumental Music Company in Ventura, CA. It shows that it is an HH StingRay in Natural with a rosewood neck and shell pickguard.
