Question Music Projects

Hello all,

I know we tend to focus strictly on MM guitars, what they do, and how much we love them around here, but I've been curious about the different projects forum members are involved in. When we all start talking about the idiosyncracies of different pieces of gear, its easy to forget that guitars are first and foremost tools for musical creativity and expression. All that said, how do you use your MM guitar? In my case, since I'm not currently in a permanent band (due to my trying to be a good dad to my young sons), my Majesty is used for hired gun work around STL with cover bands, studio session work, playing for churches who use contemporary sounding music in their services, and obviously practicing/writing/recording at home.

I have a band named Siddius that I started with my oldest friend/bass player/musical partner when we were only 13 or 14. We took a few years off while we went to different universities (music school for me), but since returning to our home state, we have been slowly putting it back together. I have built up something of a home studio over the years, so we were able to make good quality demos to attract quality members. Our band is our vehicle for artistic expression, so this is the sole reason for my guitars. The band is Heavy Metal, but we try our best not to cater our sounds to any pre-established genre concept. We enjoy Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Judas Priest, King Diamond, Black Sabbath, etc., but we try to bring some sort of new flavor to each tune. I compose more instrumental ideas as well as inject pieces with vamping jam sections, while the piano player brings in a certain melodrama, and the bass player is the adrenaline-riff writer.

This is what I do outside of school and work, where I study literature and work as a live sound audio engineer for local venues and Parks n Rec.

I'm currently on a band which plays 80's hard rock covers.
Lots of fast solos and beer, pretty cool stuff.

Live classic rock keeps my 25th busy. 2-3 gigs a month. I normally bring a Morse or Gamechanger as a backup. The Gamechanger is getting more and more use live as I get it dialed in to what I want.

I've done some studio work with my Petrucci. If I needed to do something in the studio now I would not leave home without the Gamechanger. Way too flexible and easy to reconfigure. It's a studio players dream.

I'm a keyboard player too and most of my studio stuff lately has been keys. Since I can't talk Sterling into a keytar I have to use other companies stuff.

Silhouette specials mostly for my top 40 cover band (disco, pop, classic rock), and Petrucci when some of the heavier classic rock requires. it.

I'm in a band called Cyrano. The keyboardist (one of my best friends) and I formed it two years ago. The style is mainly progressive rock/metal and we play our own songs as well as some covers from Dream Theater, Rush, Kansas, Maiden, Queensrÿche, etc. The thing is all of us are studying at university, so we take the band as serious as we can, but also keep in mind it's a hobby and a way for us to escape from the routine. We will probably do a demo of a few songs of our's during December/January, so I'll upload them once they're finished. I play my JP exclusively, but I'm looking forward to SBMM releasing a Majesty model to include in my arsenal!

I play in a classic rock band These Guys Live (named in the spirit of Abbott & Costello's "Who's On First") concentrating mostly on 80's music (Journey, Def Lep, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake etc). We are currently in our 8th year as a band, and play approx 55 shows a year. I feel comfortably gigging with any of my guitars, however the Luke III's, Silo Spec, Axis & JP6 are my favorites to take with me.

I currently write and record with a NY based funk/soul/rock/rap singer Jcast, hes got a few hits out there but I met him when I worked at quad studios in NYC, I use my silo specials with various pups and various amps...
