You think that Page used a Gibson because there was nothing else around? That's sort of ridiculous, no offense. Why is he still using them?

A signature guitar is a signature guitar because it has an artist name on it. Period. It has nothing to do with features or differences between other models. The Avril Lavigne Tele is every bit as much a sig guitar as a JP Music Man, whether or not anyone here likes it.

Music Man rules. Chili dogs for everyone!!!:D

Mate, it's not ridiculous...it's true. What other solidbody guitar from the early 60's had humbuckers? Plenty of semi's...not so many solids....

As far as him still using them - you'll have to ask him, however it's probably due to the large paycheck and his slouch caused by playing a Les Paul in the first place LOL!

You mention the Avril Lavigne Tele (which confirms my other point about MMan actually having people that are recognised as guitar legends rather than the flavour of the week) - but Strat / Tele endorsees are slightly different as they are not signature guitars to begin with - but again, did she help design it? No....

No offence taken - it's just my opinion mate........

I think we are arguing the same thing in a lot of ways. I completely agree that the MM endorsers are legendary players and totally NOT flavors of the week. I not defending Avril's legendary playing , I'm just saying that kids have heard of her and don't care that she didn't design it. That's all. I'm not arguing that the Albert Lee or Steve Morse MM isn't a more original guitar. It is. Obviously, those artists come to this brand because they aren't getting what they want from other brands. That's okay, but it's also okay that Billy Corgan was happy with the Strat shape when making his sig guitar.

You have a Sambora Kramer. Isn't that just a Baretta or Focus body with different features? He didn't design that shape, yet that's still a signature guitar.

We're on the same page believe it or not. I love these guitars and just have an amazingly hard time steering students toward these when nobody they listen to have heard of them.

all n all, i don't think making 200 different sigs will help. i mean, fender has no options to choose from, and every sig represents a little change in specs. in EBMM's case, it would be working backwards.

and they're not as dumb as you might think: i just noticed they changed the colour of the JP7 in the instruments page to black!

now put the Y2D higher up BP.

Dude - Don't remind me about that guitar...it's horrendous to play and I don't play it by choice - just 'cause I needed it for a Bon Jovi tribute.....although to be fair it has three h/b's, toggle switch in a different place, two other mini-toggles for coil taps pearl stars down the neck and on the body - but like you say - the body is a Baretta template I think......

I have the same problem - I had someone come up to me at one gig..turn his nose up and say 'Couldn't you afford a Strat?'........He was suitably patronised LOL!

musicmankixazz: Since you're the one who started the thread I thought maybe you had an idea of who a possible endorsee could be. Did you have anyone in mind when you posted?

thats who we need here. he fits the profile of technically and musically proficient players this joint is known for. and he plays an ibby, which means his ripe for recruiting :p of course his stuff breaks the heaviness scale... but his solos

Personally I think that the MusicMan line up is great as it is, there is something for everyone (except a hollowbody ;)), although in my experience anyone who plays a Strat who then tries a Silhouette or a Silhouette Special can always appreciate its a better guitar, so surely if there were more people playing them in the public eye, people would give them a better chance.

I don't think the answer is to expand the range with oodles of Signature models but I don't think plenty of high profile players could do the brand wrong - but as the saying goes - if you build it - they will come.
