It's a Sterling HS, has a graphite [Moses] neck,
so ... 3 PU coils makes it a "Cutlass III". I even
flipped one of the tuners over to produce a 3+1
effect, however imperfect the result.

OK, now all you all can stampede in the rush to
be 1st to post reply that "This is SOOOO wrong"
but you won't be 1st cuz I've already said it

P.S. If you noticed the cool oversize black knobs
you can get all 4 at Radio Shack for a few bucks
[somewhere around $4.75 to $5.25, but we are
not allowed to post actual prices of new gear on
the forum].

MUTES:

The muting material down by the bridge is 2 parts. A strip of
foam nearest the bridge, and a 'pony tail skruntchy' after that.

The scruntchy is actually 5 scruntchies, one longer one across
the whole string set is bound onto the strings by 4 mini-sized
scruntchies, one per string. That arrangement allows the whole
assembly [minus the foam] to be quickly slid up the strings an
inch or few, for a zero-sustain muted thump sound.

Most of my basses have the scruntchy treatment. I seldom use
a foam strip cuz it's much less versatile or adjustable.

HEADSTOCK & NITEMARES:

Yeah, the headstock .... doesn't eggzacklee give me nitemares,
but I do find myself reaching for the treble-side tuning key and
grasping at thin air cuz it's not where God/BP intended it to be !
Speaking of what's 'intended to be', I'd never replace an EBMM
fretless neck with a graphite neck. This is ALWAYS a matter of
converting a fretted ax to fretless. BTW, Moses now offers a
"proper" 3+1 headstock, but these necks pre-date that.

SOUNDWIZE:

Anywho, I really dig the "Cutlass" necks and have also put one
on an SR4 HH. What better home for such fine necks than on a
MM body ? BTW, as to questions about sound, tone is acoarst a
very subjective deal, but one thing I can objectively tell you is
whenever I put Moses neck on a bass [I've done 3], that bass
gets distinctly louder. With the increased output I can lower the
PUs approx all the way, which has its predictable effect on tone
but with no penalty as to output [vs a wooden neck].

CREATIVE USE OF DECALS:

If Moses Graphite would send me one of their decals I would be
more than happy to stick it on a clock ... acoarst they'd hafta
send me an apropriate clock as well [one with a clock face cuz
mine are all digital readout].

KNOBS OF GREAT COOLTH:

Finally the knobs. These should be standard equipment on Rays
and Sterlings. They look even cooler on a Ray, with the mirrored
effect of chromed banana. And they somehow FEEL just right
But, they are kinda big for most other basses whose knobs are
closer grouped and more numerous. I've used small Radio Shack
knobs in such instances, but for coolness, size matters !
