silverburst you made my point excactly, you used to negociate from retail, now the price tag is 30-50% less and these people still go into GC and try to grind these guys and gals down even more, making it hard for the average person to make a living at a GC. and what really chapped me was the "offer $1050 let them smell it and then walk out" thats the kind of crap that burns me up. that mentality doesn't just come through on damaged gear. I mean, do you go into the supermarket and try to get a better deal on tomatos or go into the record store and ask for a discount on a CD? Incase you haven't guessed it yet I have worked at a GC for 31/2 years now, I'm an asst. manager but I had to work my way up, but it's a hard gig when people walk in and always want abetter deal thinking that we make so much money on everything in the store, we don't. you want to ask for a deal do it on strings and picks thats the stuff that has an OK profit margin. alls I'm saying is give these hard working folks a chance to make a living and maybe they can stay there long enough to become an employee that knows the place inside and out and better knows the gear. my rant is done.

Do GC sales reps get paid a salary as well? I'm curious cuz I was thinking about applying for a job at a local GC.

It's hourly against comm. and then you get paid a percentage of what you sell, It's a great place to work and a company where you can be a highschool educated musician and work your way up to making 6 figures.

right, sold for what it is SHOP WORN, not used, and not sold below dealer cost, everything has an inherent value. no matter what, a store/company cannot stay in business selling gear at or below cost. I mean what kind of profit margin do you think these basses or any other musical instrument for that matter brings?

The minute it gets damaged/broken, dealer cost no longer has anything to do with what it is worth . . . . . that's a cost of doing business when you let morons play with the toys . . . . you can't seriously expect to make a profit on gear that broke on your watch, do you? That's just kinda, well, stupid, at least to me . . . . I mean, heck, why not pay full sticker price for a car that only got run over by the garbage truck once, while on the dealers lot? That's not gonna happen either . . . . that's what insurance if for, among other things . . . .

wow, did you raed the entire statment I made, or just the parts you wanted to read, I didn't say that it should sell for full price, just not below dealer cost. and my main beef is with people that come into the store and always want a discount. and when you call the people that damege the gear at GC morons, do you also shop at GC, I'm sure when you go into a shop you treat the gear with the utmost respect.

Yeah I read the whole thing . . . . . and stand by what I said. The value of any item is based on more than just dealer cost . . . . at least if said item is no longer in "like new" or "close to new" condition . . . . . And yes, I shop at GC, and yes, I treat the gear with the same respect I would my own, in that if I break something, I feel obligated to at least offer to pay for the damage that my own stupidity may have caused . . . . I don't expect the next customer to "take it in the shorts" . . . . . and generally speaking, if I don't plan on possibly buying something, I won't play with it . . . .
