It's too heavy for me.

I love the extra range and being able to play above the 5th fret most of the time but 25% more of everything is killing my left shoulder. I already use a padded 3" wide strap and I still couldn't play more than 15 mins at a time before I start aching for my 4 banger. I'm afraid that I have to return this and get a 4HH. My 5 will just have to be another, lighter brand.

4 in. strap?
Sounds ridiculous, but if you really nlike the bass, this could be an option.

My brother had the same trouble with his Daion bass at first.

Actually, I inserted a 6" wide pad on the strap too just to see if I can fix the problem with a super wide strap but still, no dice. I'm one of those guys who runs and bikes a lot and so my upper body isn't very well developed.

This one here has to be at least 11#. It's about as heavy as my ash SX which I don't play anymore for the same reason. It's not bad if I just stand still and play. But I don't :)

It may be heavy, but I'll bet it makes up for it in tone!

I was surprised at how heavy my SR5 was when I got it. My shoulder ached for a couple of days after my first gig with it, but I eventually got used to it. I use a plain 2.5" leather strap with no extra padding.

That's one more thing I was thinking about. The TONE! It makes it hard to give this SR5 up. I've been at a crossroads all day with this. I just got done playing it again. Yeah my shoulder hurts, but my mind and ears are happy.

I'm trying to rationalize this. I can build up my shoulder, but I can't make my SR4 grow an extra string.

I'm gonna make me a very heavily padded strap in the meantime and play some more.

Try one of these, it's 'The Perfect Strap'. I got one for my heavier basses, and it really made them much easier to play.

I have two Stingrays that are 11 lbs, and I had a Fode*a that was 11.5 lbs.

Time to hit the gym. :D

...I'd have to agree... A stingray is worth the self-conditioning. In fact, that reminds me of the similar problem I had when I first got my stingray. I noticed it was noticably heavier than the Fender I used to play and it took a minute to get used to; and now I'm glad I hung in there, because I have one awesome bass!

Also, switching to a quality strap made for bassists was like icing on the cake. I can't stop raving about the Comfort Strapp. You can get them at Guitar Center.

Hang in there! :D

I haven't weighed my Bongo 5HH, but during a gig when I put it down and pick up my Stingray there is definitely a noticible difference between the weight of them. The Stingray is so much lighter that I almost hate to switch back at times. Then I think about the sound and it's not so hard to switch.
