Hey that's from the Rancho GC isn't it? I have one(SR5)exactly like it. Did you see the deal they had on the Lava Pearl SR5?

I got this from San Marcos. I think most GCs stock a black/black/maple Ray. A very common scheme to be sure but always nice to look at.

Yeah it's time to workout. Let me do some Cuervo curls.

Where is San Marcos? I usually go to the Rancho Cucamonga or the San Bernardino GC's.BTW I know you are an effects junkie from your posts on TB. Interested in Boss GE7-B?I'm trying to raise money for a Fulltone Bassdrive but i'd probably trade something for it............

San Marcos is back by Poway, if I remember correctly.

San Marcos is about 30 miles south of Temecula by way of I15 (it's just west of Escondido). It's along my commute route so it has become my "local" store. The GC is next to WalMart on the Nordahl exit of SR78.

Thanks for the offer. I run a clean and dirty amps so I don't need an outboard EQ.

From what I heard the Fulltone Bass Driver is sweet :D (and spendy)

HI! Two hopefully helpful thoughts for you:

1. Not all SR5s are that heavy -- there's a fair bit of variation. Mine's a trans-orange ash body, and it is also HEAVY...but sounds great. So it is possible you could find a lighter SR5.

2. My solution has been this great strap that goes over both shoulders to distribute the weight. It's called a Slider Strap, and it works well. Not too expensive either.

you can check it out at:

good luck!

A more radical solution is the Bass Brace http://bassbrace.com. But it requires that you add a strap point to the bottom of your bass. Usually that's a deal breaker for most, but if it's real pain and a matter of playing bass or not, I'd probably add the strap button to keep playing.

I doubt you would want to do this, but thought I'd mention the site in case you're interested.

11.5 lbs seems heavy. My SR5 never seemed very heavy to me. I guess I'll weigh it sometime.

I’ve thought about this weight problem a lot and have come up with a few suggestions…

Try lighter strings, a lighter 9 volt battery, remove the knobs and pickguard. Get a helium filled guitar cable; get some gigs on the moon, only one sixth the gravity there. If you don’t play on all the strings remove the ones you don’t use, and take off the tuners too, the holes are a great place to put your cigar.

I offer these ideas free of charge and I hope it helps.

I was actually surprised at how light my SR5 is. Its got the natural finish, and it isn't really that much heavier than my P bass.

Huge padded strap is my only advice. But whatever you do, don't sell that SR5!

I agree about the comfort strap. I have one on back order at the shop I go to.

One of my bass buddies had one for a fender, and I tried it out... it's like it wasn't even there!

If it's still uncomfortable after these minor adjustments, try thinning the clearcoat finish with a (Bic)'lighter'
- as a bonus, the 'flamed' finish could be worth a few extra skins over at evilBay's

Hey guys, thanks for the real and not so real suggestions ;)

I bought a new strap with heavier padding and played the 5er more to get used to it. I just got done playing it for a full hour and I feel that I could've gone on for another. I am definitely ready for the Syciprider 3rd World Country Tour. I also noticed that the bass seems lighter if I don't look at the fretboard. Maybe it's tugging at my neck muscles at that angle.

How high or how low are you wearing that bass? Somtimes too high you start building some stress up in your shoulders. Too low causes other pains so...

Maybe just a bit higher. I think about where the upper horn is at breast bone level is about where things are right. Might try taking a notch out of the strap and see if that doesn't ease the problem some.
