Hi people,

I just got my SR5 HH tonight. I've spent the last 4 months waiting and looking for one like it but haven't been able to find one anywhere on the net. Now that the Black Ice pickguard has been discontinued ... :D

I thought I could mix the vintage look of the trans gold with the modern look of the Black Ice PG. Do you guys think it worked???

I think it looks more modern than vintage, what do you think?

My budget camera truley doesn't do it justice but here's some pics.

One problem though....

I have noticed a little setup problem with it. I get some mean fret buzz on the B, E, and A strings at the 7 - 9 frets. Should I simply raise the bridge saddles or is it possible that the neck may need a bit of relief?

I´d start out by loosening the truss rod just a nudge or two. Necks often need som adjustment during this time of the year. Don´t know where you live but here in Sweden the humidity drops during the fall/winter so.....

Fine looking bass you got there!

Fret buzz: Just giving it a bit more relief should take are of that.

Pickguard: I'd probably try an aged white pearl or black matte on that trans gold

Thanks for the responses guys.

I'm going to have to play some more gigs before I order new pickgaurds and deal with the fret buzz.

I had it set up today by the tech in the store I ordered it through and it still buzzes a bit on a couple of places. It's much better now then when it was new out of the case but I think I may have a high fret or something. I don't know what else to do.

Thanks again for the advice.

My rays have always buzzed a bit when playing them accoustically, but once through the amp there's no audible buzz at all. I had to learn to back of with my plucking fingers a bit to eliminate buzz. I was playing too hard and the strings were flapping about all over the place causing some rattle. I've learned to be a bit more subtle with my plucking and there's no buzz problems at all now.

Of course the action might be a bit low as said before, I had to loosen off the truss a bit when I got my ray, everyone seems to like a low action these days, personally, I like a bit of daylight between the strings and the board, 2 or 3 mil at the 12th.

Beautiful bass by the way, love the guard on that.

Yeah...I'm with you. That slight buzz while playing a bass acoustically doesn't really bother me either. Both my Rays buzz a little bit, but growl when played through my amp.
