Just got my new (used) stingray about a week ago.
i love it!!!! im glad you guys helped me decide to get this one. it totally kills the jazz basses ive been using. total string to string volume balance, the perfect clear highs, and rumbling lows. its heaven. necks alittle big but i can get used to it, in fact, its worth it for the tone! pretty well mint condition too. the serial number starts with E2 so im assuming its a 2002.
the only thing i dont like about it is the hipshot drop d tuner that it came with. i took it off and checked and a replacement musicman tuner will fit perfectly in its place, so i ordered one direct from ernie ball and will be replacing it this week.
im also replacing the black pickguard with a tortoise one. its a black bass with rosewood and natural headstock. i love tortoise on black!

anyway i just thought i would share my experience. thanks for your help again.

Ps- whats the going rate on used hipshots these days? im thinking about selling this one after i remove it.

i will post some pics as soon as the pickguard arrives. i had to return the first one to wd music because it was all scratched up and pitted and i paid like almost $70 for it with shipping!!! i wasnt gonna settle for that. so im waiting for them to get the new one out to me. as soon as its here i will post some pics! thanks guys!

some of you may remember an earlier post of mine where i said i won a black cherry burst ray on ebay.
well i did, sort of, but it turned out to be a burnt apple finish and i decided that since it was listed wrong, i wasnt going to take the chance of anything else being mis listed so i contacted the seller and we decided not to leave each other feedback and he would relist and i would just find another one to buy and we would forget about it. so i now have the black.

maybe i will get a friend of mine to join up and post some pics of his ray too. he just got one of those namm ones that he says there are only 4 made ever. its a strange gold sparkle fade finish. very nice!!!

That's a beautiful bass! Autumn red is a wonderful color. It's my second favorite, next to Blue Sparkle. :D

...told ya so! ive never seen a burst like that. it kinda goes from one side to the other rather than burst out from the center. very unique! that bass plays real nice too!
thanks for posting burkey, i told you they would like it!

i will get my pics up as soon as wd music gets on the ball with my pickguard....

Oh so that was your friend? Well, that's not a NAMM, I think. But it is a pretty bass with a rare, discontinued color! :D

I tried to buy one of those Autumn Bursts last year, I think, when they were still available. The Shop Whose Name Must Not Be Uttered really pissed me off and I let it go, but that is a great finish.

Must not have sold enough, though.

Well, the seller never really said that the bass itself was a NAMM edition. He/She says it was on display at NAMM, which I don't question - many fine and rare colors have been shown there, some haven't even been put into production (ex. That Martini Olive Bongo Bovine was talking about). But other than that, I'd say your friend got an awesome deal on that beaut.

At that price, he definitely got himself a deal. I almost bid on that one myself but the maple neck isn't my thing.

Dumb, I know.

thats not dumb at all! im the exact same way, i wont play maple on bass, to me, it dosent even look right.
on guitar i prefer ebony, next rosewood. but on fender strats and teles, maple is a must!
thats weird if you ask me!
