I'm new to these forums. I have 29 guitars, Fenders, Gibsons, Epiphones, Squiers, Ampeg Dan Armstrongs. etc., and most recently, a pair of EBMM-licensed OLP MM1s:

These are really great guitars and great additions to my collection. I have long admired the Music Man EVH/Axis guitars since they debuted in 1990, so it's cool to have guitars with a similar vibe. I do plan on adding Floyd Rose trems to mine soon.

Welcome! I had a black floyded OLP, great guitar for what I paid, and it got me into MM's. I have a feeling that the same will happen to you :p

I suspect you are correct! ;) I should also point out that I have a 1984 (last year of production) Music Man HD150 212 combo. Easily my fave amp of all time.

The thing is, I am really impressed by these OLPs. They really surprised me how good they are for the money. I have been playing them non-stop over the past couple of weeks, a good sign!

The OLP MM1s are really a great value. Just as good as a good Epi is to a Gibson and a good Squier is to a Fender. Perhaps not as great as a Music Man Axis, but really good, just the same. I was aware these were being discontinued, so I snapped them up. I have a feeling that the OLP guitars may have nibbling a little too far into the sales of the Axis. From what I have read, prior the discontinuation of the MM1, there was much speculation of a price increase, which certainly would have been warranted. My MM1s are certainly as good as my Epi Les Pauls and SGs, and those guitars were more expensive. I'm just thrilled to have them in my collection, even if they aren't "the real thing", or whatever. I really love playing them, and they sound fabulous through my Marshall JCM 2000 DSL 50/1960A and Ampeg VL-502/VL-A rig:

I have an OLP Silo Special and absolutely love it. Used it for some recording today on my boss br-1600, and it sounded awesome. The neck is one of the best features that I love about, that and the variety of the sound.......factor in the price ($140 used), and it's an incredible little guitar.

Get a real Axis, and you'll sell both of them. :D

Don't get me wrong. The OLPs are great guitars for the money, and a good one can get you close to the Axis experience on a tight budget. I got a couple of really good years out of mine, and enjoyed the hell out of it. But played side by side with the real deal, the OLP just didn't compare.

As much as you like the neck on the OLP, if you play an Axis for a couple of hours and then grab the OLP, the neck will feel really slow and clumsy. It's why I sold mine.

Sorry, wasn't trying to be a downer. The OLPs are nice, but I like to preach the gospel of the Axis whenever I get a chance. :D

I don't sell my guitars. I didn't expect my MM1s to be "just like an Axis" or whatever. I knew what I was getting, I had researched them fully before buying. Again, I really like them, and I'm not into comparing them with anything. As to the "real" comment, they are real, they are real OLP MM1s. Again, I have 29 guitars, so I'm well covered.

She will learn the evil ways of EBMM GaS soon enough, I believe!

Stick around, there are lots of cool (and geeky, lame joke throwing) guys around here!

The next guitar I buy will definitely be an Axis, no doubt about that. In the meantime (and afterwards) I plan on enjoying my MM1s. They are cool, inexpensive guitars, and while they are not "just like an Axis", they are heap big fun and I enjoy playing them as much as my vintage 1970 Ampeg Dan Armstrong or any of my Strats, Teles, SGs, Les Pauls, 335s, etc.. I love all guitars!

I love all guitars but, since buying an axis the others havent been picked up, I need to sell to buy so bye bye to the others because I am already planning my next EBMM.

Without doubt the coolest most playable guitar I have ever picked up.

Are you going to route the nut slot and use a locking nut, or just use locking tuners when you install the floyd?
