I have always unplugged mine when not being played. Never sure why I developed the habit, but it was a good one to get.

I also want to mention there will never be any mods to the MM bass I have. What a great piece of equipment it truly is.

tkarter, is the SR5 your first/only active bass? If so, don't be like me. I've been playing active basses almost exclusively for the past four years, and I still freak out when my bass starts sounding like it's disintegrating and about to fall apart. Then I remember, it's probably the battery, which it always is.

Yes, it is my first active bass. I have had active guitars and they just seem to go silent. Thanks for the warning. Really the way the SR 5 is built and how I treat it I would probably always suspect a battery first if things should go wrong. I am totally suprised by the battery life it has as well.

I think for gigging purposes I will check the battery with a voltmeter before I head out.

Good idea.

If the voltage is near enough 9 V (They start at about 9.6 V), you should be fine.

I gig infrequently enough that I change the battery before a gig anyway to be on the safe side.
