This question came out on my previous thread, where many forumites told me that I should not have been charged for the matching headstock in a natural color Stingray 5.

The reason they pointed seemed clear and logical: there's no difference between a standard/ordinary headstock and a natural matching.

At that point the advices I got were to call my dealer and demand the discharge for the MH. However, I needed to be 100% sure, so I PMed Kevin and here's (with his assent) what he said:

«Well you "can" order a natural instrument with a matching headstock and there is a difference between non-matching and matching. The matching headstock option receives a "gloss" clear coat finish that matches it to the gloss of the body. Where as if you go with a non-matching it is just the natural un-finished wood.»

I posted this because apparently it is not a very known information, and I guess it could be useful for future knowledge. Although the color is in fact the same, in the matching option you get a different treatment of the wood of the headstock, which is always welcome.

Hope it was helpful.

Be well,

Ricardo.

Thanks Ricardo - I didn't know that! Never occurred to me there would be a difference.

So. What are you going to do - leave the order as MHS or change it natural and save the cash?

No problem, GreyDad!

I'll leave the order just as it is... I just love EBMM's gloss finish on the body... and if I can have it also on the headstock... why not? :D After all, its already ordered!
