I received this about one month ago from Sam Ash - this was a Summer NAMM exclusive bass...

- Alder Body / Pearl Red Burst
- Roasted Maple Neck
- Ebony Fingerboard

This really is an amazing bass... Old school P-bass at it's finest! The fit and finish are absolutely top-notch, as one would expect from an MM product. I'm just debating whether or not to get a new pickguard for it - The red burst looks almost black - as can be seen by my crappy cell phone pictures - but I am thinking of going with a black p/g.

I'd almost consider going with a clear PG, but agree with the other suggestion of tort.

You got a beautiful neck on that thing man. In your opinion, how does it compare to a Pbass from yesteryear? I was playing a 1972 Fender the other day, and loved the tone but the playability left something to be desired. No shops around have the Caprice or Cutlass for me to play, and most reviews I have seen are very vague.

For the most part yes, assuming the P-bass you played was Alder and not Ash. I think the Cutlass gets extremely close to an alder bodied P-bass - with a little bit of a modern edge to it, at least to my ears. The Cutlass is an extremely comfortable bass to play.

Sadly I had to return this beauty to Sam Ash. Baby on the way and as much as I tried to convice my wife she still thinks we need diapers, etc... She wasn't on board for just using old newspaper. Go figure!

Sorry to hear you had to return it. But definitely need to take care of the family first!
