Neck PU replacement in Axis SS?

Hi,
I've searched the forum but haven't found anything about neck pickup replacement. The bridge PU is quite ok (a little bit too dark, but great mids). Neck HB has too much lows, not enough highs - it's muddy for my taste. I've read that modyfing factory setup isn't good but I've decided todo it. Listenig to audio clips from SD/DiMarzio sites isn't a good idea - they used other guitars etc. Who did any modification to Axis Super Sport? Any ideas about pickups?

Regards,
Jacek

Get a PAF Joe.

Satch felt there woo too many lows and not enough highs and mids to achieve a bell-like tone. Thats the one you want there.

And if you can't find a PAF Joe, the standard PAF Pro still is a great choice for a neck pickup. Remember, Satch used those for over 15 years (wow...time flies)! I have a Pro in my '89 Ibanez JEM, and it's always been one of my favorite neck tones; their Virtual PAF might also be another good option, but I've never tried one myself.

Another interesting option might be the new EJ Custom, which they designed with Eric Johnson to sound like a twangy vintage Gretsch Filtertron pickup - lots of warm highs there, but I'm not sure how well it would pair up with the hot Axis bridge pickup, though (might work, who knows?). If you like single coil pickups, the Humbucker From Hell sounds really nice.

The Seymour Duncan '59 also makes a lot of people happy as a neck pickup, if you don't mind mixing brands.
