I highly recommend the Ashdown ABM line of amps, loads of power and an excellent tube preamp. I love mine.

Of course no one ever got fired for bringing an Ampeg to a gig either, great amps, I love both of mine.

I had a Sterling and an Ampeg B2 combo. Sounded awesome and I ALWAYS got compliments on the sound. Don't think they make this particular amp anymore but maybe used. Haven't heard the new stuff either.

I'll side with the current Gallien-Krueger equipment, as well as Ashdown.

Ampeg is my all-time favorite, though.

+1! If my Backline 600 sounds as good (and loud!) as it does, I can only imagine the thunder that comes out of the 1001RB!

BTW Randy ~ aren't the current GK bass heads supposed to come with the rack ears? Mine didn't.

FOR ME and me only, GK Bass Amps and music Man Basses, Nothing better for my ears. Or if you don't mind carrying it, 1968 to 1975 Ampeg SVT.

I know that all of the new RB series heads come with rack ears but mabye the Backlines ship without them to save money? If you were supposed to get them i'm sure that GK will ship them to you free of charge and if not you can still order them pretty reasonably direct from GK.The 1001RB is a monster, i've never been able to fully open it up volumewise because at 10 o'clock on volume and master it's shaking the walls.I actually play with the input pad in most of the time and it's still more than enough.BTW I tried out a BLX600 at GC and I was very impressed.I heard that Bob Gallien designed it to be very similar to the 800RB's 300 watt power section with the addition of the distortion channel. Here's a little secret, the distortion circuit is pretty much a Boss ODB-3 so if you ever thought of getting that pedal you already have it now:D

Yeah, the days of dragging those horses around are done for me. I'll go with the SVT-PRO series (when money allows) and 1x15/2x10 cabs (in multiples, of course).

The B2R sounds pretty damn good with my Bongo, though.

I really can't wait to finish building my rig...actually, two rigs A/B/Y'd together.

+10 there, Randy! The gain/overdrive on the 600 is crazy! I'm going to invest in the footswitch for the occasional (needed) whack-in-the-head!

I'm partial to Eden and Crown for power.

Just for fun try turning off the horns in your cabinets and experiment with the distortion channel. This is what GK intended when designing that circuit for the 2001RB which automatically switches the horn off when you engage the distortion channel with the footswitch.. It will sounds wayyyyyy smoother.

Yeah...I've still got to shop over the next couple of months for two 2x10 cabs...maybe a 4x10 in 4ohms, provided I can find one I like/can afford.

Have you considered a 2x12? I use two GK Neo 2x12's with my 1001RB and it's by far my favorite rig ever. Very good compromise between 10's and 15's and IMO makes a 4x10 obsolete. For small gigs I take just one cab but for the larger gigs(or if I just want to be really loud) I take both cabs. I also hear that a 2x12 sounds great paired with a 1x15 but i haven't tried it myself. If you can afford it the GK Neo cabs are very good. http://www.riksmusic.com has some good deals on blem GK cabs from time to time. If you want something more affordable check out http://www.avatarspeakers.comI hear that they make a great 2x12 and it is available with neodynium drivers.

ive been considering swapping out my svt classic for an aguilar db 750. i like aggy.

their 4x12 cabs kill - but prolly get too low for punk; more metal-ish (you'll get a tone like the dude from Strung Out - he uses those w/ the DB 750)

funnily enough i'm looking to get the same kinda bass sound as the guy from strung out, as my band is not far off the style, the only prob is i live in the uk and the aguilar stuff is like rocking horse s**t, so i'm looking at maybe an ampeg svt 4 pro and a ampeg svt 6x10 hlf cab, but if there is anywhere in the uk that sells the aguilar stuff i would like to go and check it out
