Hello guys I really need your help for my situation. When you read it out you will probably laugh. I bought a Music Man JP BFR model somewhere 2 years ago and I have been playing it in standard E-tuning all the time. But now, because of some stuff that happened I really think that I accidentally got the Baritone model. I remember when it came to me It had really thick strings on and the setup was really messed, but I thought that the guys at the store just messed it up. But then some days ago I scratched my guitar a little and brought it to a repair shop to polish those scratches. And when they asked me how they should restring it then, they kinda looked at it and asked me if it was the Baritone model. And I said no of course not. And since then I believe that my guitar could be a Baritone, because mainly of the fact that it came with those thick strings and the neck really looks longer when compared to my other guitars. i tried to measure it and compare it to the specs of the Baritone but i don't really now where I should measure. So can you help me to figure out if I really got a Baritone? If yes, I'm still going to play it in E-tuning because I haven't had any problems with the intonation. I am just really suspicious if they really sold me a Baritone.
(PS: please excuse me for any grammatical mistakes, because English is not my first language obviously)

Welcome to the forum!

Standard scale length is 25.5 inches (64.8cm) and baritone scale length is 27.5 inches (69.9cm). Measure the vibrating string length from the nut to the center of the bridge saddles. The length won't be exact (due to compensation for proper intonation) but it should be much closer to either 25.5 inches or 27.5 inches.

Your English is excellent, by the way.

Heheh,

That's a great story to introduce yourself here. If it turns out to be a baritone, that's a funny story right there. Let us know what the dealio is!

Even funnier would be "Is this a Baritone....No, that's a bass" (you never know, those bass players with their 6 strings these days...tsk)

Thank you for your replies. But I don't really understood agt meant with the "center of the bridge saddles"
If I got you right I measured somewhere about 70 cm, which means I've got a Baritone ? I just measured from the nut (that I know, lol) to the beginning bridge, is it that what you meant?

Oh That's why that Les Paul that I tried in a store the other day felt like a children guitar to me? I really got used to those big frets. Now everything makes sense!

I see AJ has confirmed it from your measurements.

I would guess that if you quoted the serial number he might be able to give you the full details on it including the date of manufacture.

My secret superpowers tell me that you have a ruby red burst BFR JP Baritone that was made 09-19-08 and originally went to Grand Central Music in Duluth, FL...:)

Now you need a standard scale JP, your fingers will be flying up and down that neck. You did alot of weight training on the baritone.
