Need Help With My Olp!!!

Wish I had a link to that cat that did the OLP bari mod...he put a new bridge on it, new pups (whichh ones would you use is the question), new pots switch and machines, and nut...cost him a couple of bucks but it looked sweet when done. I'd be content sans the piezo in doing soomething like that...Bari's are fun to have around but if your main focus is 6's and 7's some of us don't want to pony up for the real deal. I'd buy an OLP bari in a minute and mod it out if I had the hankering to use the bari....

It just occured to me that I've never seen 4+2 sets of tuning machines for sale. They come either in 6-on-the-side or 3+3 sets. So how would you go about replacing them on the Bari?

Pickups... I would try DiMarzio Drop Sonic I guess. Or maybe Lace Sensor Drop&Gain. I don't know of any other p-ups designed specially for baritones (well except for custom Dimarzios that are in the original).

I found a link the other day that sold tuners individually... I thought it was a cool concept... HOWEVER... I forgot to bookmark it! When I find it i'll drop a post! They were Schalers, Goth, Good ones.. .not the junk stuff!

Yeah... I appreciate your offer though. I have a few guitars that Retail for a whole lot more than this one... and everything about this particular guitar is hands down better than most of them. I can't belive the quality (vs) price on these things... OLP could probably tag an extra $50-$100 bucks on these things and still push 'em out the door!

olp guitars

the axis is a great guitar, but if your on a budget and you want a pretty good guitar for the bucks the olp is great.Ok here is some tips not told to make the OLP scream.first off with a few mods you can make the OLP mm1 scream as well as a axis heres a tip first off the internal stuff in my book is cheap,I replaced the 250 k pot with a 500 k, out of a real aul reed smith guitar, and changed the switch to one out of a les paul.....after doing so not only did it make the guitar scream but it increased its sustain,and for a lot less than buying a axis........just make sure your good with a solder iron and not afraid of doing a little wood wakin to make room for a full sized 500 k pot.............oh and yes mine sports you know whos paint job..........rock on........

I have owned 2 OLP axis copies. One, I gave away; and the other I have and is with my Father-in-Law being customized. I am having him pull the finish (that glorious foto-quilt) off the top and fill the trem cavity and bring it flush with the opening on the top. My goal is to be able to install a Tele bridge assembly (albeit a top-loader) and something in the neck position along with an Axis Sport pickguard.

I would never do those types of mods to an EBMM.....

I have an old OLP silo special copy that I bought to travel with a while ago. I also have a new in box original floyd rose sitting in my basement from a parts guitar that got scrapped in the design stages a few years ago. One of these days, the two will be joined together

Hey lets not run off our cousins that own an olp. Those OLP royalties help fund this baby. There were seeveral reasons why we did the OLP thing the first is we were being ripped off right and left by weasels. So we decided to develop a strategy that enabled us to participate in the price point but stay focused on making USA guitars and basses. One of the biggest reasons was to give people the opportunity to play their way to an original.

Question...How many reading this first bought an olp?
how many have or have owned an olp?

SOme of the specialty guitars like the double neck and the baritone are really kind of fun especially when the usa baritone is a little expensive for how often you would use it but is great to own.

The OLP Luke got me to get the real thing. I'm glad that I did get the real Luke because it's a guitar of a lifetime for me. That said I still enjoy playing the OLP. It needed a little bit of fretwork and steel wool to the neck but now it feels and plays very well. Surprisingly it sounds very similar to the real thing but the electronics are more prone to noise. It's close enough that I can take the OLP to places I wouldn't take the real Luke and still happily get my sound and enjoy the wonderful neck shape.

After the OLP Luke proved to be adequate I got one of the MM1s (before the MM Luke). Fun little guitar. It plays very well but I have to say that the electronics need some improvement.

So ya, if not for OLP I might never know just how great Musicman guitars are.

I hope I don't get pow-powed for adding to this old thread, but on an OLP side note, my OLP Silo Special is freakin' heavy @ 7.8#. Well, heavy for a bolt-on perhaps?

I have a gloss black Olp mm1 and i would like to put a floyd rose on there, i have seen other olps done this way, i just dont like the floating trem and the ugly route job they do with there "floyd equiped guitars.i like the sound of them flush against the body,anyway do you guys know any quality shops or persons that could do this for me? and if so how much will it cost me? thanks...DROP_D...

Hi, i from Argentina (sorry for my english) I have a OLP MM1 and i put a tremolo unit GOTOH GE 1996T. Change for a best sound, best sustain, best quality sound. I very happy. I put a Di Marzio super distortion.

I love my guitar.

The OLP argument.

Here's my two cents:

Does the average OLP play as well as the average flagship guitar built by the SLO crew? Of course not. However, the OLP guitar is very important to the success of EBMM.

I would recommend an OLP to any parent buying a first guitar for kid who wants to play, or to anyone who needs a backup. They won't break the bank, and the Chinese are getting better at building. I think that players should wield their OLPs proudly. The OLPs are far better players than my first guitar!
