I recently picked up a 20th anniversary Silo. I'm pretty pleased with it for the most part (though I love the ASS more - see my other thread), but there are some things that are puzzling to me.

This guitar has a push/push tone pot that splits the coils. It looks like the original pot is included with the guitar, so I assume this is not stock?

That aside, the pickups sound very, very nasal and mid-rangey. They don't sound *bad*, just sort of muffled and uninspired. They are articulate, but just seem to lack character and life. I have to definitely adjust the treble and presence EQ on my kemper to bring rigs to a usable tone with it. I just want to make sure I'm understanding the Silo and that it's behaving as it should.

So I guess it boils down to wanting to know a few things -

#1 - The pots are 250k. This is kind of unusual in humbucker guitars but not unheard-of. (pun) Does the 20th come with 250k pots standard?
#2 - Is my coil-split push tone pot an after-market install? Could it be a special order EBMM item?
#3 - Are my pickups Dimarzio Virtual PAFs? Is the Bridge the VHPAF?
#4 - The bridge pickup is definitely quieter than the neck, which is a huge surprise. Is this normal?
#5 - The resistance of the neck PUP is 7.71k; the bridge is 9.73k. This looks fairly normal; could the bridge be possibly wired parallel? (Seems unlikely as the it would measure 19k in series.) Can someone who has a 20th take a quick measurement?
#6 - Is there a 20th specifications sheet somewhere? I can't find anything; it's like its existence has been wiped from the history books.
#7 - Can I get a wiring diagram somewhere? It would be great to review it and compare; maybe my wiring is causing this.

I pulled the pickups real quick and I'd say they're stock. They have the black backplate and the wiring, aside from the tone-pot, looks original/clean.

Thanks guys, any insights you have would be hugely appreciated!

edit: added 6/7

The 20th's did not have a push/pull on them when shipped.

Here is the original flier for them when they went on sale.

For the wiring diagram you'll need to email customer service.

PS, it doesn't exist without pictures!!

Wow I can't seem to reply with tapatalk...

Thank you VERY MUCH for the flyer/spec sheet! Clearly my wiring has been replaced. :-(

Do you have the email address for EBMM CS? Once I get the correct wiring diagram I will restore it to original and then at least know what it's supposed to sound like.

Here's a pic!

sedawkgrep, congrats.

Warg they are out there and they are usually cheap. I just saw one was a really nice top go for $1000 over on TGP.

Glenn - that's probably the one I just bought! :)

Good news. I got the wiring diagram from EBMM support and last night replaced the pots and fixed the wiring up. It sounds MUCH better now and the bridge volume matches the neck. There must've been a problem with how it was wired before because I'm pretty sure just swapping the pots alone shouldn't have fixed both the nasal tone and volume issues.

Anyhow it's much improved!

I believe the Dimarzio pickups are specific for the 20th and not available on the market. I had a problem with my neck pickup for some reason when I first bought the guitar (used). I had to send it back to EBMM to get the proper pickup installed.

That being said, the 20th in my personal favorite guitar. Such a great sounding guitar and so easy to play.

I didn't care much for the stock pups in my silo spec. Replaced neck & bridge. But, I am an Axis guy and am use to the high output pups. I love my silo special now!!!

Congrats on the 20th and glad you worked out the issues. From what Glenn posted I am assuming you bought it in The GP Emporium. Was just wondering if the seller mentioned anything about the mod and wiring? If not that was not very cool at all! I pretty much know the guitars I play inside and out and since one of my best friends owns his own shop and is an ace tech as well as player and EBMM dealer, I would always have him take off the pick guard on a used purchase to see if everything is correct. There are a lot of guys out there with all kinds of guitars with different pups and wiring who are clueless to the fact.

The seller said he got the guitar used, and it was wired this way. But yes, I think it's really imperative if you're selling a guitar to know its status, and to report that before accepting the sale.
