I've looked and can't find the definitive answer...

Are all positions parallel on the HH? I was just thinking that the outer coils in parallel for a jazz vibe and the inner coils in series for a p-bass vibe would be interesting. Never really thought about it until I was playing a Jazz with the S-1 switch.

Is there anyway we can get an official answer about the pickups in position 1 (coils 1 and 2 together) - if they are in series or parallel?

I compared a Stingray HS and a Sterling HS both in position 1, and to my ears they sounded different - like the Stingray was in parallel and the Sterling was in series.

If anyone out there knows for sure could you please post the answer???

Its parallel. The difference you are hearing is because of two things:
A)Sterling and Stingrays use different electronics
B)Sterling has a smaller body with slightly different sonic properties

Yep, current lead time for all instruments is 6 months! Its really gone up since January when I ordered my last one. EBMM is doing so many cool things right now, and unfortunately wait time is one of the drawbacks from all the cool stuff they are making.

P-Bass / J-Bass positions?

O.K., I've read this thread and would still like to ask.................(please)..

For the HH Stingray, what switch positions (1,2,3,4,5) would be closest to a J-bass sound, and then a P-bass sound? (I'm sorry, I just can't follow the "outer coils series, inner coils parallel" thingy stuff. I have problems with 1 volume and 1 tone knob!

I'm pretty new to bass and wouldn't be able to tell by just listening to the different positions (because I don't know the sound difference between a "P" and "J"!). Please pardon my ignorance.

I gather from other posts in here that a P-Bass sound is close in position 4?

Welcome to the forum. I can't tell you much about HH or HS because I only have single H configurations of SR5 and Bongo 5.

The bongo 5 H is the onlly MM bass I have that can cop a P bass on steroids sound.

It can sound like a P bass but it will be a very loud p bass.

No Jazz can growl like my SR5.

Play any MM bass and your desire for P or Jazz should decline by around 200 per cent IMHO

I confirmed a few days ago that in fact, Stingray 5's HH / HS, and Sterlings HH / HS are default wired in series, at least the bridge pickup is.

First shalt thou move the Holy Position Switch to position three, no more, no less. Three shalt be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, nor either count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then playeth thou "Smoke On The Water" repeatedly, and all things being equal, if thy guitar player be drunk, only then shall the two positions meet.

Could some one advice me if it's ok to put another humbucker on my stingray 5 to make it HH. I have a '92 stingray. If yes, I need also some information where exactly the pickup is positioned. I am from Romania and I could't find anybody here with a stingray 5 HH.
