Watch bro, its natural... I do sometimes play my E string as my A when not paying attention.

I will try it at band practice tomorrow night and see what everyone thinks. I'm still trying to coax the right tones out of it. I'm leaving it flat and adjusting the balance first and then either boosting or cutting (only a smidge) to try to get what I'm looking for.

WOW that is crazy bright! Looks neon by the pictures. You wont be missed on stage. Let me know when you gig near the Boston area.

BTW the key to the Bongo EQ is to have either the lows or the low mids boosted, not both at the same time. To even out the B string I had my low mids up & lows cut, just a bit below neutral. Try it.

OK, so I wasn't too fond of the zinginess of the round wound strings so I found an old 4 string set of Chromes (50 - 105) and put those on (I left the round B). It sounds HUGE. Not sure about the tension so maybe a lighter set. How are the EB flats as compared to the Chromes? I guessing they're very similar. Has anyone tried the Group IV? I know there's no 5 string set for Group IV but I could just buy a single 130 B later. Or is the Group III's light enough?

I also tried some TI Flats (which I really like and put on many of my basses) but I didn't like them on the Bongo.

Whoa son, take a step back

You either
1. Have the wrong rounds
2. Gotta dial back the treble & high mids
3. Need a Streamliner
4. Roll to the front pickup
5. Cut the piezo (if you had it)

I never have a ZINGY problem & don't like it either. I have elixer nanowebs on mine.

Good luck

Put 'em back on and break them in. Any new set is going to be way bright. The zinginess goes away in a week or two. I too am one who is not all that into super-sizzle.

For me, the stock strings are the best overall.

OK, I took your advice and put them back on. After really playing with the preamp on this for the past few days, I seem to have a better handle on it. The G is still a little more zingy than I like but hopefully it'll die down in a week or two.

also, may want to check pickup height, might be higher on the G side than the E side. if its a volume thing, you know.

It's not a volume thing. It's the zingy string thing.:)

Been without power for about 36 hrs now so haven't been able to play it. :(
