+1 Me thinks the 1 1/2 wraps might have something to do with the slippage.

It really wasn't slippage. The gear was turning but the post was not.

It was only 1 1/2 on that string b/c when the post wouldn't turn I had to try to get my string off and it mangled a bit of the end so I had to cut it shorter.

Anyway, a new tuning gear in on the way and I'll have it fixed in no time.

Wrappng from as close to the top to the bottom totally works for me. However a loose key or gear is probably an issue. I got 3 wraps on a 130 B string myself.

EB customer service just offered you a fix for something that you said was going back to GC.

That just doesn't happen in the world I grew up in.

Don't just get along enjoy what EB has offerred you. It will last a lifetime.

IMHO.

Well, I did have to pay for it (at a discount but still . . .)

Even though it's eventually going back to GC, it's still their product. I'm glad that they're there to support it.

I'm sure if I went back to GC, that they'd service it also (but they'd just call EB and get the part and do the repair). This way just saves me time and gas.

It's pretty easy to get things fixed around here.

And 1.5 wraps is workable. I've had some situations where I only got that many wraps (long story, don't ask) and never had any troubles at all.

So! Other than the slipping gear, how's that bass?

Does anyone besides me find this an interesting response?

I enjoy the fact he did not bash EB or GC. Does that count as interesting BP?

I'm inclined to agree with you on this , Randy.

I wrap a bare minimum of 2.5 windings; usually 4.

Shoulda bought from VBTC and we'd have paid for it and had Dargin drop ship ya one for free..

Perhaps that's true but . . . I wouldn't have the bass right now. From what I'm seeing on the forums is that it's a 4 to 5 month wait for one. Since I didn't own a fretted electric, I didn't want to wait that long.

I'm enjoying it. Still twiddling the knobs to try out different sounds.

The shape is starting to grow on me. The sound . . . well, I told you before, it was the sound that sold me on that bass.

I was never sure on the string wraps either. I swapped the rounds off my new sterling for flats when it came in and checked how long they were before they were wound at the factory. Looked like they took 4 inches from the post to the end of the string. I did the same when I was cutting them to wind them.
