Hey everyone, been eyeing the JPM off and on for sometime now, low and behold I found one this past weekend used for an ultra great price, played it 5 minutes and bought it:>) It is mint other than a tiny stress crack on the bodies neck pocket (lots of guitars get these). Is this common on these?
Also, I got no paperwork at all, per trem, etc. I assume the trem is to be setup like any floating trem?
Also, it has 10's, but for some reason they play harder than my other guitars with 10's (Strats and LP's). Specific reason for this per chance? Is it a weird scaled guitar or something? The tension just seems tight. Maybe I will have to go to 9's or hybrids.
I love where the knobs are, most guitars I have to redrill the volume knob as I have a wild right hand. Only problem is now the switch, I keep hitting it, argh. Maybe it's time to finally reevaluate my right hand techinique!
The Dimarzios are fine,b ut I have always preferred Duncans, anyoen replace pu's on theirs yet?
Anyways, maybe you can help with the above concerns.
Either way this seems to be a very nice guitar, solid and well rounded which will be lots of fun for a long time.
Thanks

Welcome to the addiction!

Stress cracks....yes, this was a topic. It is in the finish and will not harm the guitar or sound.

I have changed the pups on one of my JP's, I like it, but I have kept the other two originial as I like them as well. Others have put in other pups and may chime in to offer you their view.

The JP comes with 10s from the factory, so, I don't know what the problem could be. Others here might offer you some advice.

Again, welcome and the rule of thumb here is.....we need PICS!

Wow, Fast!
It's just the maroon color, natural headstock, no piezo.
Everytime I play it, I can;t help but htink how great it would be to half the higher frets scalloped...Hmmm...

Sounds like you got the Pearl Redburst....same as one of mine......natty stock and no piezo.....that is the one I changed out the pups on. Plus, she has been to battle and was resurrected by none other than Jongitarz! Still, you must post pics....it's a rule....no exceptions! ;)

Scallop? It's a thought, but of course, it is made to JPs specs, so you would have to have it done.

Jon works for EBMM. He is the repair guru and the MAN when it comes to guitars and set ups and really cool "secret" stuff he does. Super cool guy who takes time out of his day to help us knuckleheads on the forum. I had the pleasure of shaking that man's hand at the Open House and he made me sit with him and his wife at the Friday night's festivities. So, when Jon tells you to take a seat, you sit. It was great and he is really a cool dude. Plus, dude can play some serious ass kicking guitar as well.....

Wouldn't be a secret if I told you now would it? Actually, he is the keeper of those secrets, but, he might divulge something from time to time. In the meantime, the best kept secret is this.....practice. ;)

You might try playing with a lighter touch.. you shouldn't need scalloped frets with the big old Dunlop 6105 fret wire on that baby! ;) Putting your finger between two of those frets ought to feel very similar!

Pay attention to your right hand for a while and you'll learn to avoid the switch. I had to make that adjustment, too.

Great guitar you've just bought.. you can play that thing for HOURS without getting tired or uncomfortable!
