New L4s and Kaizens

I just sent payment for this 2019 L3. This is my first EBMM guitar and first real “high end build” guitar. I typically use the dimarzio clip lock straps for my guitars. Any recommendations for a great strap and strap locks for this axe? Can’t be putting Wal-Mart windshield wipers on a Ferrari now ;)

I use the Dimarzio ClipLocks exclusively on all my EBMMs, the Regular one for the Petrucci‘s and the Wide Strap for the Bass.
They make a Metal Clip Variant, but i tried that for one day and replaced it with the Regular Clips, cause i was afraid it would scratch the Guitar in the Case, and it kept rattleing around during use.

i have no issue with the clip locks as long as i use the guitar's native screw. I just find the strap to be a bit cheap easily moves around alot while playing live

I almost bought that one myself. Congrats!

I use the Ernie Ball strap locks for all my guitars.

But John Petrucci and Steve Vai, among may other professional guitarists, have been using the DiMarzio cliplocks exclusively for decades while on stage or in the studio. So I would think that is a testament to their reliability.

The Ocean Sparkle is pretty awesome as well. HH or HSS?

HH. As much as I love single coil neck pickups, I don't get on with middle pickups at all. They sometimes get in the way of my picking, and to lower them means they don't do the "in-between" sounds that well anyway.

My dream Luke would have a HB in the bridge and a dual-coil "single coil" in the neck (I have Duncan YJMs in my strat), and NO middle pickup. Coil tap for the bridge. For me, that's perfect. I actually have this in my old Charvel 3DR.

Do the lower/smaller frets on the Luke 3s make for better or worse slide playing?

Irrelevant, since you don't use the frets when playing slide....? Playing slide is all about action (string height) and touch.

I guess my train of thought was that if the frets are lower and the action isn’t shredder low, that it would be harder to hit the fret when playing slide? I’m still new to slide so just curious

fret height shouldn't matter at all: the only thing that matters (besides your touch) is the height of the string above the fret. So the height of the fret is irrelevant. It's the space in-between the string and fret that makes it easier or more difficult to control a slide.

Ahh okay so the action and ability :)

Do the lower frets on the Luke 3 make 9 gauge strings TOO wiggly? I prefer 9 gauge strings myself. Does the fret height matter at all when picking 9 vs 10 gauge strings or is still a matter of preference with these guitars?

you have not received it yet? Don't worry you will figure out what is the best setup for you. :-)
