What's the cut off date for ordering?

Interested in getting a Stingray 5 HH fretless. Also, I've tried to read up on what options are available for a Stingray and almost have the idea you can get it with a piezo pickup system but can it be both HH and piezo in the same animal?

I get the idea if you get a fretless it'll be with a Pau Ferro fingerboard.

I also don't quite understand what it means when something says "SLO special". Something to do with the neck?

I'd like a white perloid pick guard too but it's correct that that would be an extra charge? If that's the case I'm assuming I would also be given the black one which was not used as a spare. Correct?

And if there still is time to place the order does it all first go through the dealer? My dealer of choice for this will most likely be Bass Central in Florida.

Another "idiot" point. Some fretless players ( for macho reasons? ) will tell me to get an unlined neck. I've mostly got the idea that this is for "cool" reasons if you know what I'm saying. But never yet actually having owned a fretless and played one much I'm leaning towards getting a lined one. Just wondering how the fretless players on this board would respond to that. LOL

Cut off is 6/7. Piezo is only available with a single humbucker StingRay. If you want dual humbuckers and piezo, you'd have to go with a Bongo (but you won't have that bridge pickup in the sweet spot). Pau Ferro will be the fingerboard wood you'd see. SLO special doesn't apply to StingRay 5, only the 4-string version (thinner profile neck similar to Sterling). White pearloid is an extra charge and you only get one pickguard. So no, you won't receive a black one as a spare.

As far as lined vs. unlined do whatever is easier for you. Some people see lines as a distraction, some don't. Ultimately, you strive to play by ear on a fretless.

Thanks for the reply melvin7822.

Also have a few more things I'm unclear about.

Are there any dot inlays on a Pau Ferro lined fretless fingerboard and/or are there options available with the Neptune Blue run of instruments concerning this?

And since the dealer I'll be ordering through is located in Florida and my brother actually lives in San Luis Obisbo. It seems rather redundant to have the thing shipped to Florida and then shipped back to California to me ( if indeed that's how it would be done ). It wouldn't be a tough trick for me to simply pay my brother in SLO a visit and then pick it up straight from the factory itself. Somebody would at least save some money on shipping that way but I doubt the one saving some money would be myself. :D

I probably still have a few more unthought of questions to come.

And I have at least contacted Bass Central expressing my desire to do this but have not heard back from them yet.

AFAIK the only dots on the fretless are side dots, lined or unlined. Check out that link from muggsy. It has some discussion and pics that might help you.

I don't know if BC would do that but if they were willing to drop ship I would like to know about it. The problem is if there's something wrong with the bass or the order comes out wrong you will have no way to prove it. I'm sure they would want the bass in their hands first to confirm the correct order and condition.

If you emailed and didn't hear back you might want to call them tomorrow since the order deadline is almost here

Thanks for the other tips guys.

To KevinM.

I've still not discussed the shipping options with Bass Central. Or anything yet for that matter and have planned a call for tomorrow morning. It also seems they like to photograph their special order basses and show them off on their website even if they immediately get a "sold" sticker put on them. So that's another reason they might want to get first look at it besides the buyer. But I'll let you know what they say about that.

It's not a bass but it gives you an idea of what these are looking like. First one!

With a Bongo, you have also get a 4 Hp set up. I just sold mine a few months back to fund my rosewood neck Bongo.

So are all of the guitars made first or are they made in line with the basses? Is it first order first made? Would be nice to have a pic. From the first bass rolling off the line! :)
