I'm new to this website and have also recently purchased a Sparkle White Sterling. I had previously purchased a 5 string Stingray from G.C. but I couldn't seem to dial in a warm bassy tone with it. I really think there might have been something wrong with the pre- amp on this particular bass as I had tried others which sounded great. I returned it and resigned myself to the fact I may never get a Music Man bass. But a few weeks later I saw an ad for "an Ernie Ball bass, perfect, $800.00." I went over to check it out. I am a recent convert to the bass, being mainly a sax player, but I figured I'd get more work playing bass, which I enjoy playing. I had the guy play it for me with all the different settings and in different styles(he's a great bass player). I was amazed at the tonal variations and great looks. I played it awhile, loved the feel of the neck, bargained a bit since it didn't have the case, and left with a perfect condition Sparkle white Sterling for $750.00. Later that day I purchased a Music Man case from G.C. for $100.00. I've taken it to two band practices and it sounds so nice in the mix. I even like the single coil tone which some people seem to have no use for. I think that pickup sounds great in a blues setting, nice and clean, yet surprisingly bassy, considering its location near the bridge. This is my favorite bass, out of my '83 Japanese Squire P-Bass with S.D Quarterpounders, a Mexican 5 string Fender with Noiseless pick-ups and Series/parallel mod, a Geddy Lee Fender, and my 5 string Walnut Carvin bolt kit , which is running a close second. I can't say enough about the quality, feel and tone of this bass.
