Hello- Yesterday I bought my first Musicman bass--- 2006 (new in store since 06) from Guitar Center---Sterling HS--Natural finish Ash--Maple neck/board--Tortoise pickguard--4 string--- It was advertised at a price I had to think about over lunch. I went back and the sales girl scanned it and it was nearly 5 bills cheaper! That was a good thing.
I have played bass since the late 60's and for the most part have been a Fender guy. Yeh I know.......I must say I am very impressed with the Sterling. It plays fast and has killer tones and combinations.

The guitar player in our band resides somewhere in this forum . I don't know his user name. He has many "Balls" and I think his axes sound great and the looks and build is equally good. That is part of the reason I came over to the "Force". Now that the force is with me --I feel better. I was worried there for a minute.

So hello from a newbie Sterling owner and a newbie Forum poster. Have a great day!!!:D

How do I load pics from my computor in this space??

Awesome...congrats on the score of your Sterling! Incredible necks! You can upload pics here by getting a photobucket.com account and then using the link to post your pics in a thread. Best of luck and enjoy that Musicman!

next MM?

Thanks for the welcome---I have actually started posting alot of my guitars for sale on craigslist. I have a Marshall stack also and a few other things to sell. I need to build up that bank account a bit before I go back to the store.

I played the other basses (MM) they had in the shop there. I didn't like the weight of the Stingrays I tried , but I liked the 2 pickup models. I didn't think the one pickup basses had quite the tone that my Sterling has. So being that the Sterling was sounding so fine and it was lighter and had the double pickup thing going on--I went with it--and glad I did. I use Rotosounds and they added even more to the sound of the bass after I got home and did the new car cleanup on it.

I have an SVT 350 amp and 410 Hartke/ 115 Cerwin Vega that I use at home. I won't get to play it thru my gigging amp (GK 800 RB--SVT classic 410 HLF) untill this Saturday--I'm looking forward to that. The gig amp really "honks" so that should be alot of fun.

One thing I did do to the Sterling was : I noticed the neck single coil pickup was a little wobbley so I put a piece of foam under it in the route. That stiffened it up a bit. The springs holding the pickup in place may just be a little small for the job---but I imagine there is a reason for the smaller springs.

Bass on----

Congratulations TGL! I'm a recent convert to EBMM too, but mine is a Stingray 5 HH. It's a beauty and the best playing/sounding bass I've ever owned. I hope you enjoy your new Sterling as much as I'm enjoying my Stingray.

Congratulations! You will not regret your choice. My Sterling 5 HH is my main bass, and the best sounding and playing bass I've ever owned.

Bass out now.

Oh man I'm lovin the bass already! I can't go too wild and talk it up like a 14 year old girl yet. I have to get over the fact that I spent so much money over the years on Fenders when I could have just bought an MM a long time ago---but I don't want anyone to know that so I won't say anything about it okay?

I was wondering about the strap lock thing--I guess I should put some on the Sterling--That's usually the first thing I do when I bring a bass home.

Thanks to MadMatt for nut info.

AND yes the neck is incredible on this thing---the effort level went down and the old hand moves better on it. I need to get some of the gun stock oil someone told me about. I forgot the name.

Berger912--I got rid of my Tobias awhile back--I just could not make it sound right. I tried this and that and this and then I just said forget it and used it for a partial trade on a 72 Jazz. I made out on that deal.

You picked an awesome bass. I have both a Bongo and a Sterling. I love 'em both, but if I was only allowed to have 1, it would be the Sterling.

You can get the gunstock oil from Cabela's. Just make sure you use very little or else your neck will feel sticky.

The player I get the more I like ----

Thanks Powman- Cabellas is a sporting goods store isn't it?

I spent some quality time with the Sterling yesterday. I read a post where the guy said he only used one setting on his Sterling HS. I find that I enjoy all the positions on mine because I can eq them however I want. I play Heavy Classic Rock in the band I'm in and I was comparing the settings to which songs I could tell they would work in. Very nice indeed to have the versitale sounds. I could tell that I would probubly use the neck and the neckward coil of the bridge pickup alot. I cut back the treble to soften the "click" and I really can leave the Mid on flat and just boost the Bass a little bit till it just starts to "push". Most of my sound comes out of the PA but where I'm at on the stage--it will be kickin'.

The bridge coil is most excellent for the harmonics-- the Sterling has the best harmonics response of any bass I have. I have alot.

Welcome!

I started reading this thread, cuz I went to GC yesterday and played a Sterling HS for the FIRST TIME...since it wasn't hangin' from the typical place, near the ceiling.

I own the Ray 4 and H HH and a Bongo HS..and didn't go near the Sterling cuz of the 'Ceramic-itis' I had. What a dumbass!

O my gosh...right off the bat with both pickups on...I'm hear 'my sound'...which is usually had through passive basses.

Now I have another bass to get soon...and falling in love all over again....what a good thing these basses are.

Sterling

Yeh- I could tell the first time I plugged it in at home that it is real good. I just can't say enough about the bass. So many times I would try a bass at the store and then bring it home and it just didn't sound all that great. Sometimes I would get a good one --but with Fenders (from my experiance) the good ones only come about 1 in 100 if that. I mean I have had some real "duds"! So I keep the good and sell the bad. I have my share now and I really don't think I need more Jazzs' or P's.

Now comes the Sterling and it blows me back ! You just never know what's up next.
