Newbie Amp/Cab Shopping - could I get some pointers?

The guy was being steered torwards SWR gear and I wanted him to know what he MIGHT be in for if he purchased Fender-era SWR gear and had problems. Every company is going to have defectrive products, it's how they deal with the problems that makes them a good, bad or great company. I'm sure I don't have to tell anyone here how FRUSTRATING it was to order my gear, wait for it to get to me and then find out that it was faulty. Imagine that happening to you 3 times by the same company within a MONTH. Did I "bad mouth" SWR unjustly? I don't think so.

I'm not particularly pro-SWR. In fact, I'm an Ampeg-man normally. But, I can't deny the tone and power my Henry the 8x8 projects!

Tell It Like It Is !!!

(Somewhat related OT Example
- Today I went shopping for some good ol' Made In USA RedWing Shoes - after finding what I wanted on the rack, I asked "Are these made in USA ?" - the clerk answered "Yes, all these shoes are made in USA!" ... then I looked inside at the Made in C$$$a tag and said "Hmmm; it says here they're made in C$$$a!"
- without any hesitation, the clerk said "Well they're made in C$$$a to RedWing specifications, and they're cheaper than if they were made in USA - everybody wants lower prices nowadays."
- with a bit of persistance, we finally found some RedWing shoes I liked that were Made In USA - I paid $50 more for them - in many ways they were visibly more substantial than the ones not made in USA.)

The point???

It seems nowadays that once a "speciality" or "engineering" company sells out to a "corporation", the Bureauc Rats take over, and everything gets quantified, and before you know it, "Quality Control" becomes "Quality *Assurance*" (if you get my meaning) ...

Is this not something like what happened to Fender back in the CBS days?

The Bottomline !!!

"Please BP - tell us *before* you think of selling out to "The Corporation", so that we can all beat it down to our MM Retailers and stock up with a few barns full of the "Pre-ExMM" Music Man gear !!!
