Ok, so I was in no need of a new guitar really; I pretty much had all of my bases covered. In fact, I was selling a guitar to fund the Axe FX. So, I stopped by the dreaded Guitar Center to snag a guitar shipping box. Anyway, I decided to give the Music Man JP6 model a shot since I was already there. Man, it totally blew me away! Killer killer action, great tones; just really fun to play. And it was setup really well to boot! But, I don't ever buy new guitars, and I wasn't going to start at Guitar Center. So, I went to some forums, found a few JP6's with the specs I wanted (mystic dream finish, matching headstock), and pulled the trigger. The guitar arrived and I was happy. But, the frets were in obvious need of attention  . This was after I thought I made sure to convey to the buyer that fret health was a big concern of mine.

I really liked the guitar, so I just took it to my fret guy and he gave it a fret dress. 2 Weeks later (he is a busy guy) and I get it back.

Holy moly, is this not a sweet guitar. Stupid low action, great sounding pickups, and the BEST trem I have ever used. I am quite a happy camper :)

Nice congrats, sorry for the fret wear but that happens used, and why the GC putdown??

They were nice enough to give you a box and let you check out a killer guitar:) Nothing dreaded about that, just my 2 cents:)

Cool score, what are the pups on there? they look like the older ones? not the newer Custom/D-sonic or the current LF/CL.

Yeah, fretwear is a fact of buying used, but this was excessive fretwear well beyond what was conveyed to me.

Yes, GC was nice enough to hook me up with a box, guitar demo, etc... In general though, I don't like going in there just on the atmosphere alone. Too many kids running around, too loud. A good friend of mine works at a GC and he always has stories to tell me. I have had really good experiences, but not so good ones there as well.

As far as the pickups, they are the original custom wound Dimarzios. I believe they are based off of the 'Steve's Special' and 'Air Norton'.

I tell you what, I thought I knew what low action was until I got the JP6. Now, all of my other guitars feel like they have high action. Haha, the Petrucci has spoiled me!

i find the original wound custom pickups more appropriate for me...now that mr. petrucci has moved on to the CL/LF combo...i can steal his old tones and use them for myself...:D
