Friday I picked up my AX40D that I bought used for a stupid good price. Basically GC priced it as a standard AX40 without the DiMarzio Axis pickups. What a steal! This guitar is the real deal. Nice solid weight to it. Quilt pops off of the guitar. Action perfect. I wiped down the neck with wonder wipes and used my Dunlop 65 on the body. The thing shines like the sun!! The trem is solid as a rock. I can wail away and doesn't go out of tune one bit. I put a set of EB M-Steel 10's on it. Talk about lively and expressive strings. I can't recommend them enough.

All in all along with my white Reflex this guitar rounds out my two-guitar collection nicely. Here are some pics:

Thanks all! Quick question. I've noticed that the front of the trem is up off of the body (near the posts) and the only part that touches the body is the back. Is this a normal set up for this trem? I've been looking for some side-view pics of trems from other Axii and AX40's but can't seem to find any.

Totally normal, im a bit of an authority on ax40's since I owned it ive done almost everything that can be done. The front of the bridge should be a little higher than an axis, long as the back is tilted and touching the body your fine. I believe its because the neck route is not as deep as it is on the axis, they raise the action in the front of the bridge to compensate. Also if its from the factory it will probably have 10's, i always put 9's on mine and remove 2 trem springs to loosen the tension, and do a truss rod ajustment to taste, my neck is close to straight, very slight bit of relief, with low action and I get hardly any buzz, and can fly all over the board at blazing speeds. So as for your original question the trem is supposed to be canted slightly back to allow for full dive bomb style use. Hope t helps, Im sure Brian Martin from Sterling will chime in .

I discovered that the back of the bridge was at an angle from left to right and making contact on the right corner first when the bar was released. I tightened the left post and now it is straight across and comes back flush as it should. Had to retune and now it is perfect.
