I like the way the Ric's look. I think that they are cool. I always wanted a natural with the checkerboard binding when I was a kid but never got around to it. I also will probably pick up on of their guitars in my travels in the future. It is more nostalgia than anything....

That was pretty much my thinking when I made the trade for a JetGlo 4003, and to be honest, I liked the way it felt short of having the damned toaster bolted over the right hand position 'sweet spot'.

The thing that sent it back out the door was when I foolishly took it to a blues jam...it just couldn't deliver the tone!

i had a ric for about 2 a week when i was a kid (i think a 4001 ... not sure). I was 15 or so and working at a coffee shop and on my break i walked down the street to the music shop and saw a beat up Ric that was priced at $200. so i paid 1/2, my mom paid 1/2 and I got it ... i was a big CLiff Burton fan so I was stoked. i took it home, cleaned it up etc but never liked how it sounded (my other bass was an Epiphone ) i didnt know jack about basses then so i really couldnt figure out what to fix on it but i knew it shouldnt sound worse than my Epiphone.

anywho ... that job sucked and I wanted to quit badly (the $4.15 /hr pay didnt help). so i quit the job and couldnt pay my mom back her 1/2 of the money so i returned the Ric.

I kinda wish I kept it ... $200 seems like a score right?

anywho ... thats my only experience with Rics. I do like how the 6 strings look tho.

My Ric actually ended up getting me a Stingray.

I bought a Ric 4003 brand new from a local dealer. He had it quite a while, and I STOLE it from him, pricewise. I loved the way it sounded and looked, but hated the way it felt, especially the whole right hand thingie. Even with the pickup cover removed, a pickguardian "fill", etc, I just couldn't find anything comfortable for my right hand to do. I also didn't like the big thick neck. I traded the Ric for a Gibson Tbird. Now I LIKED the Tbird alot. Great feeling neck. Killer rock sound, but I switched bands, and the Tbird ended up not being the right sound for that band. I'll own one again someday, but I digress....I sold the Tbird, and bought, you guessed it, a SR 4 HH. Now this is a great versatile and comfortable bass!

That's interesting about not being "right" for the band.

I played my SR5 with the band I was in before this one. I tried my Bongo a few times, but I just couldn't find the sound I was looking for with it.

When I started playing with Railhead, I played my SR5 the first night with my Bongo as my backup. The second night, I played the first two sets with the SR5. I don't know what came over me, but I picked up the Bongo for the third set and it just killed. These guys haven't let me play any other bass since. Not that I've wanted to play any other bass.
