Ladies and Gents:

I just spoke to my insurance agent and he informed me that my instruments were not covered since I make an occasional buck or two with them. I am in the process of applying for insurance coverage - I have to send a detailed list of my gear and get an appraisal for my 63 Jazz.

You all should double check your policies.

Big hugs to Koogs from across the miles. That truly sucks to happen to such a great guy who needs no more problems in his life.

And again I'm amazed that BP not only reads and posts to these forums, but takes action way beyond the call of duty.

+1, yet again. Amazing generosity around these here parts!

Sounds like you're pretty well covered for your 11/9 show, and I'll bet you guys will have an amazing show!

For those of you who are gigging musos and are still not convinced to insure your gear, be aware that generally the annual premium runs around 3% of the insured value, which might sound "expensive" to some, but do the math and then put yourself in Koog's shoes.

PS. BP, you're a saint. Great gesture.

Koogs, I'm sad to hear it. Hope you get your stuff back.

BP, well...what can one say that hasn't already been said? What a great guy you are.

Man that sucks about the fire and your stuff, but at least nobody was physically injured. BP is certainly the real deal isn't he, and never leaves us lacking positive things to say about him or the company. We may even want to start calling him St Poppa, the patron saint of bass players :D

BS! I pity the fool who underestimates your intelligence, Sterling!

Koogs, I have my stuff insured with Clarion; and they have told me explicitly that my stuff is covered no matter who is playing it or where it is at any time. I think I have about $27,000 worth of PA, basses, amps, etc. insured for around $350-400 a year.

And also, I'm in for ANYTHING as far as help goes if needed, even if it's just moral support. You want a Tyler Dow Bryant CD, Koogs? Me neither.

:D

Best of luck dealing with this CRAP, sir! We're all with you.

It's only my second post on this forum but I am sad to hear about the gear loss. That must be terrible.

On another note, I am even more happy that I decided to buy an Ernie Ball StingRay this week.

Everyone....just so you know...I moved into my new house this past weekend and I don't have Internet yet. So, I have to jump online at my old office.....where I am still welcome...lol...

I helped my drummer relocate to his mom's last night. Then, my band got together to go over our strategy for the next show. Word got out where we were meeting....our local watering hole....and 6 local bands showed up with people. The place was packed....and the support was tremendous. We have the amps and drums at our disposal from one of the opening bands for our next show. Very awesome in how the local musicians support each other out here.:D

Also, from what I can gather.....quite a bit of "evidence" has been gathered thus far. Not sure what....but, it seems to be something tangible. Either way....I still want to catch whoever did this personally...

Insurance company talked to my drummer and his wife. They have to get reports and what not. But, it is not looking too good for myself and the two guitar players. I only mean in that, we will more than likely not get even close to the amount of what the gear is even worth. But, it is not a done deal.....that was just a quick chat with the insurance people. They (Insurance peeps) are going to look into his policy fairly deep or so they say. We'll see....but I never hold my breath on those cats.

Oldtoe...I will be looking into insurance through the company you told me. Could you possibly PM me name and number....I would appreciate it.

You guys are AWESOME and I just want you to send me positive vibes....

It's great that things are working out on some level, at least.

Just a thought about insurance, FWIW (probably nothing, as most of my so-called thoughts are):

IMHO insurance is usually, but not *always*, a great idea. Conventional wisdom should be questioned as a matter of course...but that doesn't mean conventional wisdom is wrong.

Look at the premium payments and ask yourself a simple question:

If you put the same amount of money in the bank every month as a rainy day fund, how long would it take you to build up enough to just go buy new gear outright?

I always prefer paying myself to lining somebody else's pocket.

When it comes to stuff like medicine, houses and cars, in which a big loss would wipe most of us out financially, insurance is a no-brainer. But if you have to pay so much in insurance for equipment that it's cheaper to just replace it yourself, then what's the point?

if its 2 to 3 percent percent of value per year and its replacement value.....thats saving for between 33 to 50 years and never having your investment performance dip below inflation......Eggie your a pro...sound right? AD doesnt sound like any lining of pockets it sounds like the insurance companies actuaries have determined that ther is low level incidence for stuff that isnt covered by homeowners......

Back to Koogs.... Koogs this could be the defining moment where everything that can go bad has..onwards and upwards.

Good point. Actually it's even more lopsided than that....how often do you update your gear? Every five years? The premiums over the realistic life span of the equipment are the number that should be considered.

I don't have my stuff insured, so I have no idea how much it would actually cost. Would insurance on, say, a $1000 amp really be as little as 2 percent per year ($20)? If so, then insurance becomes what seems a reasonable surcharge on the cost of gear over its realistic life span. At 2 percent per year and five years, that $1000 amp actually costs $1100.

Offsetting that is the true value of the gear as it ages, which generally decreases, right? I've owned cars that were worth less than the annual insurance premium....most of us probably have, but the law says you have to carry insurance. Total the car...you never stand a chance of getting your money back, never mind getting enough to buy a new car.

Good Luck in dealing with all this Koogs! Though on the positive side, it's always nice to see the rallying of support from the good folks here, however big or small the problem is. :)

It is wonderful and you are a big part of it! Thanks.

Hopefully I will have the Internet installed at my house tomorrow (fingers crossed), but, if not....have a great weekend!

Well, let this be a lesson to everyone. Insure your equipment. I did not. My drummer called and said that our practice space had caught fire and everything was lost. I got over to his house and indeed....it was burned to the ground. From what I can gather, it was set intentionally....probably some kids with nothing better to do with themselves....but who knows. I lost my Stealth, my 5 string, my JP, my amp, cab and a few other items. Just totally bums me out. This was my only "out" and enjoyment as I am going through some personal issues.

The only good news....my LE bongo was at my house because I broke a tuning peg and string and I brought it home to work on it.

Again, if your guitars/basses and what not is somewhere else....INSURE IT!

All I will say....they person or persons who set this fire....better hope the police get them before I do.

I had a motor scooter stolen off my front porch recently by some punks. If I find them first they will hear three sounds in rapid succession: *click click boom* Probably not, but they'll wish they had.
