Being a youngster, I'm wondering if the finish on that bass is one of those "goopy old finishes" I've heard you talk about?
I've seen some old pre-EB rays with pretty crap looking sunburst that I guess could be called goopy, but I'm too young to really know what you're talking about!

No, 1988 was the year for the soft goopy finish. Between two other bass forums there are people who have posted several pics of their basses that all were dated '88 that have the finish that is still soft enough, you can dig your fingernail in it and scrape away at it. Years ago I also borrowed a trans teal from late 80's that did the same thing...when you got it really warm it got really gummy.
