This forum is the biggest part of the whole 'musicman' addiction phenomina.... I was totally happy with my axis, and couple of other 'non-mm' guitars... now every second day I see in the forum someone getting their new JP, or their new Morse, etc.. and every day I'm figuring out how to get another one too.

I'm torn between four things...

Do I want a...

a) JP 6 - Peizo, Mystic Dream, standard inlay.
b) Morse Y2D DePurple
c) One of the countless great buys that pop up here all the time.
d) MONEY!!

Damn you all with your Mystic Dream's in transit, or Y2D's on order ...!

Doug,

You won't be needing those other guitars anymore, once that Petrucci is in your hands. But don't you dare neglect that lovely wife of yours... ;)

She's still number one, but I'll have a new #2 now. ;)

I want to retire my EVH after 13 years being #1 (#2). Unfortunately, I gotta case it up. The Trans Purple is really starting to fade now.

Still going to go for a Y2D with a floyd as my #2. Gonna put a D-tuna on it for all of that drop D stuff my band does.

Looking for a follow-up

Not really.

Mine is one of the ones that's being fixed (they just shipped it yesterday!). It was effecting tuning stability on my low B and E strings (it's a JP7).

I just recently bought a new in box 2005 JP6 and it has this problem with the strings touching the fingerboard behind the nut.
Did they just sand down the problem area? I'd like to not have to ship the guitar back to them. It is new and I'm enjoying the heck out of playing it!

If I sand down the rosewood, can I just apply oil/wax like the rest of the neck?

Thanks - wish I would have noticed at the store but I didn't really work the trem bar.

I remember when Lance Romance posted pics of his AL, one comment was that the compensated nut would have looked better in black than in white. So I guess here it is then - a black compensated nut.
I wonder if EB would sell a black one to those of us who have white compensated nuts and wish to change ??

Mine has the afore mentioned string touching after-the-nut problem as well. I didn't think it was supposed to be like that but wasn't sure. It doesn't seem to affect the tuning after trem use, but I usually have to tune the E string more often than the others. That could be the problem! I too would hate to have to send it back to EB for a few weeks...

Interesting. What year is yours? I assume this was a problem in '95 and has since been corrected.

Mine was ordered in November of '05 and I received it in February of '06. From what I have heard, the compensated nut was relatively new then. Any thoughts?

derrr...I meant '05 not '95
Yeah I searched the archives and found mention of the problem, and the EB was fixing it but I was unable to find exactly what they did.
I can't devote too much time to archive searching so I resurected this thread from years ago.
I'm just going to modify mine the first time I change the strings. Doesn't look like a big deal to do with a round file and steady hands.

Cheers!

Yikes... Let me know how it goes. There appears to be a clear coat on that rosewood, so make sure your hands are REAL steady. Seriously though, let me know how it turns out... Thanks.

Hey, it's been 16 years, I have a lot to learn (...AGAIN!) so I ask...

exactly what is the benefit of the "Compensated Nut" on these guitars?
