Welcome to Day 17 of my annual New Year's New Guitar Days (NYNGD)!

OK, guys. We have come to the end of 2015 and also to the end of the 2015 edition of my New Years New Guitar Days (NYNGD). I have done this now for 4 years and I really enjoy recapping my GAS and sharing with my fellow Knuckleheads. As I've said in my manifesto, (and I quote myself):

Hopefully most of the folks here get the vibe from me that I am down to earth, not an egomaniac, not cocky, and not trying to rub anybody's nose in the fact that I have been blessed and have some bucks and spend my money. Hopefully most of the folks here -- and I sincerely get this vibe -- enjoy living vicariously through me and think it's fun and cool to come along for the ride. Kind of like that buddy of yours who seems to get all the girls (which I was definitely not that guy) -- you can either be jealous of the guy or high five him and listen to his stories! I've always been one of those high-fivers.

I've enjoyed reading your feedback and thoughts and POV's. And I've enjoyed feeling like it's maybe a little bit of a smaller world by being able to "hang" and shoot the sh!t about the guitars we love with guys from around the world:

  • Australia (Stevie)
  • Belgium (sanderhermans)
  • Canada (beej, CHill, GuyOnraet)
  • France (DrKev, MusicMan_Luke, threeminutesboy)
  • Germany (banjoplayer, joe_web)
  • India (gurtejsingh)
  • Japan (Jeong)
  • Netherlands (jzeijen, Luc)
  • Poland (look_at_her)
  • Switzerland (lydianb79)
  • The grand Ball room ? (agt)
  • UK (Spudmurphy)
  • US - Alabama (Razzle)
  • US - Arizona (kbaim)
  • US - California (A.J., peterd79, xjbebop)
  • US - Florida (alf_cockle)
  • US - Illinois (ishred6string, kestrou, MJM)
  • US - Louisiana (ozzyrules)
  • US - Michigan (Baggedcereals)
  • US - New Jersey (mystixboi1)
  • US - Ohio (mikeller)
  • US - Pennsylvania (Dr.Strangenote, misterB)
  • US - Rhode Island (Tollie)
  • US - Sin City (Stratty316)
  • US - Texas (Jorge ven)
  • US - Utah (bhull, BrickGlass)
  • US - Washington (Pott)
  • Unknown (GWDavid28, MajtasticVoyage, phillybri, ScottO)

Finally, thanks to BP, Brian, Scotty, Derek, Tomas, Drew, Dudley, A.J. and the rest of the good folks at EBMM who continue to dedicate themselves to creating the tools that we enjoy -- that help us make our music, help us aggravate our spouses, and bring us together as fellow Knuckleheads!

OK Jeff, enough of your babble. Let's get to the final NYNGD of 2015: NYNGD #2015-17!

Today's NYNGD is pretty special. As you know, back in the late '90s and early '00s I was an EBMM Artist and, even though I've basically given up the dream of "Making It In The Music Business", long ago my relationship with EBMM -- particularly Derek Brooks -- evolved to friendship. We chat from time to time, we hang at the guitar shows, he tips me off on special guitar show one-offs, etc.

Recently, I was in SLO on business (Amazon.com, my parent company, has offices there) and Derek happened to be in SLO for meetings at the factory so I hooked up with Derek and Tomas (from the SLO factory) for lunch and a hang. While I was there Tomas said, "Man, we need to show him that 'OTHER' roasted maple top Axis!" Now, as you'll recall, I have a one-off Axis with a roasted maple quilt top that was a prototype from when EBMM was exploring what to do with roasted maple. It's stunning and amazing, but it's basically just a really nice quilt top that was then roasted. But ANOTHER prototype?!?

I said, "Huh? What 'OTHER' roasted maple top Axis?!? Yes, LET'S SEE THIS 'OTHER' roasted maple top Axis, please!" (drool)

Derek said, "Definitely!"

We went to A.J.'s office and hanging on the wall was the beauty you see below. THIS guitar, this is something else! They took a piece of birdseye maple, bookmatched it, ROASTED IT, and then sprayed a subtle iced tea burst. Added a delectable roasted maple neck and fretboard, and gave the back a trans orange/brown finish. HOLY MACKEREL!

Needless to say, I stole A.J.'s office guitar! BAM!

This guitar is a stunner and totally one-of-a-kind. Is the top better than the Hazel Burst Quilt LIII I showed yesterday? That's up to your personal tastes -- I think probably the Hazel Burst quilt is better than this. Is it the epitome of workmanship like the Majesty Artisan I showed a couple days ago? No, that guitar beats this for extreme workmanship. But as far as being one-of-a-kind, totally unique, drop dead gorgeous, and having a fun story, this guy takes the cake and the icing!

And that does it for the 2015 edition of my New Years New Guitar Days (NYNGD)! It was a VERY GASsy year -- 17 guitars (plus an additional non-EBMM guitar). Whew. If my wife only knew! Will 2016 be as crazy as this year -- only time will tell. But what I DO know is that I will continue the chase! That's the best part!

Thanks for hanging with me guys! I appreciate it! HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Regards,
Jeff

(The back story in case you're new to my NYNGD: For the past couple of years I've done a fun thing that most of you I think enjoyed, and I thought I would do it again this year. Every year, I am a slacker about keeping my Guitar Gallery up to date... So, as a fun holiday thing, let's launch a guitar in the Guitar Gallery each day leading up to New Years Eve! In the past I've received PM's about my collection and whether I play all of these guitars. :) The same question came up during my NYNGD posts a few years ago and my answer was pretty detailed and well thought-out, so please check it out here!)

(Also, in case anybody gets any funny ideas -- these guitars are not at my house. They are all in my very secure and alarmed studio facility. I usually only have two guitars floating around the house...)

Jeff, amazing once again and congrats! I can now understand your conflict about the order of the guitars to present in the final stretch. All of them beautiful! Thanks again for sharing these. High five!

And thanks to all at EBMM for crafting such amazing instruments.

Blessings and best wishes for 2016!

Perfect finale.
The SLO hang makes it the obvious closer for the year.
I really do cherish the times i've been there and the good vibe there.
Most recently, last summer.
I like, admire, and trust those good folks.
Congrats Jeff on a nice year

That top looks like the surface of the sun boiling away...

Amazing, Jeff - gobsmacked as our English brothers would say.

Please, oh please, oh please... let there someday be an EBMM "Custom Shop"!!!

Sapphire Black with the black pearl pickguard does look pretty sinister. I love the combination. Another excellent choice, my good man.

I am loving the varied models so far, but I gotta say...it is high time for a Floyded Axis to make an appearance in the Class of 2015 lineup.

Awwwwwwwwwww, yeah! Now, that is what I am talking about, Jeff!!! Consider me blown away... Sorry A.J. :(

Very nice.

Gotta admit, I've been slowly developing GAS for an Axis. This recent guitar porn has just been making it worse 😝

Beautiful! I gotta say I've never seen a chunk of birdseye maple quite like that. I have a Honeyburst roasted PDN (like you do) that reminds me a lot of this Axis, I think these warm finishes are an excellent complement to the roasted necks.

Appreciate the nod. I didn't know you were an EBMM artist. I'll have to dig a bit and find some clips. We have all very much appreciated your NGDs, these are so cool. We all look with such anticipation when we start seeing these. And your website is simply torture, what a testament to these guitars.

Hope you have a great and safe Happy New Year!

Jeff, that's a fantastic guitar and I have thoroughly enjoyed your thread for 2015!!

It's an honor for me to be on the list up there and it goes to show how deeply you remember all of us :)

The Majesty has to be my fav of the list, that's just probably because I'm a huge Petrucci fan and have never tried the other guitars you've posted. But I'm sure each one has a special place for you :)

Congratulations, and I know how hard you must have worked to buy all these beauties :)

A very Happy New Year to you and all forum members!

Cheers!
