Welcome to Day 13 of my annual New Year's New Guitar Days (NYNGD)!

Thanks for the kind words and comments on NYNGD #2016-12!

Today's NYNGD is special. When you look at the photos, you'll say, "I don't get it, Jeff. Usually the guitars get more stunning as you get closer to 'the grand finale', yet this one's not really a looker. While it doesn't have a stunning quilt top (which, let's be honest, less than 10% of EBMM EVH's had amazing tops), it is still an outrageous guitar because it looks like it rolled out of the factory in San Luis Obispo yesterday. It is spotless. Absolutely spotless. For a 22 year old guitar, if I told you I bought it new yesterday you wouldn't think twice... until you saw the EVH signature on the headstock.

However, while it looks brand new, it was indeed built 22 years ago, and as anyone who owns an EBMM guitar knows, they all sound better as they age. This one sounds pretty remarkable and the neck feels absolutely amazing. And look at the birdseye on that neck!

(The back story in case you're new to my NYNGD: For the past couple of years I've done a fun thing that most of you I think enjoyed, and I thought I would do it again this year. Every year, I am a slacker about keeping my Guitar Gallery up to date... So, as a fun holiday thing, let's launch a guitar in the Guitar Gallery each day leading up to New Years Eve! In the past I've received PM's about my collection and whether I play all of these guitars. :) The same question came up during my NYNGD posts a few years ago and my answer was pretty detailed and well thought-out, so please check it out here!)

(Also, in case anybody gets any funny ideas -- these guitars are not at my house. They are all in my very secure and alarmed studio facility. I usually only have two guitars floating around the house...)

Congrats mate that a super nice score

Jeff, i say this with more than a little admiration of your collection, the ways in which you obtain them and preserve them, and the fantastic way you represent all of them here with stunning pics, stories and elegant class photos...

You sir, are a Ballhog

How did you go from "elegant class" to "Ballhog"?!? LOL. :D
Anyhow... Thanks for the kind words. I guess the thing for me is that I really do care about this. It's become a hobby. I never wanted to be a "collector", I wanted to be a "player" (er... a rock star). But now I embrace it. And sharing them with you guys is a big part of it for me. Kind of like someone who runs an art gallery or a museum.

Which, by the way, would be a really cool license plate for you

BALLHOG

Ummm. BALLHOG. Ummm. Not sure. LOL. HOGSBALLS. Better, but too many characters. Ummm. LOTABALLS... Better.

That's phenomenal, Jeff. What do you know about its last 22 years? Was it stashed in someone's closet who forgot about it? Or a purposeful collector just decided to unload it?

I'd like to hear the story on it as well. The condition is amazing!

I don't know! I bought it from fellow knucklehead Jim Warnstedt, who always seems to have outstanding EVH's, but not sure of the backstory. Jim, any insight for us?

Love the color & infested neck, and I really like the top figuring. It's unique and has character.
I appreciate symmetry, but I'm often drawn to more 'imperfect' figuring because of that...

what a great score
dunno where u take this superb 2nd hand balls from... guess the offers are a bit better than in europe

Jeff, Sweet EVH... Amazing birdseye neck! I like the top and trans blue is one of my faves.. Congrats
