Welcome to Day 17 of my annual New Year's New Guitar Days (NYNGD)!

OK, guys. We have come to the end of 2016 (and well into 2017 now) and also to the end of the 2016 edition of my New Years New Guitar Days (NYNGD). I have done this now for 5 years and I really enjoy recapping my GAS and sharing with my fellow Knuckleheads. As I've said in my manifesto, (and I quote myself):

Hopefully most of the folks here get the vibe from me that I am down to earth, not an egomaniac, not cocky, and not trying to rub anybody's nose in the fact that I have been blessed and have earned some bucks and spend my money. Hopefully most of the folks here -- and I sincerely get this vibe -- enjoy living vicariously through me and think it's fun and cool to come along for the ride. Kind of like that buddy of yours who seems to get all the girls (which I was definitely not that guy) -- you can either be jealous of the guy or high five him and listen to his stories! I've always been one of those high-fivers.

Well, I didn't get this together in time to launch the final guitar on New year's Eve which is supposed to be the plan... work was just too busy in December and I got started late, and I've been slammed in January too. All good stuff, but late hours and business travel got in the way. And this takes quite a bit of time -- I spend about 45 minutes to an hour photographing each guitar (because I am not a pro photographer, I take each shot/angle with six different white-balance settings, and for each WB setting I then take 7 different exposures -- this yields around 400+ photos per guitar), and then for each guitar I spend another another three hours sorting through the photos to find the best color accuracy and angles, cutting the images, cleaning the images, etc. I love every minute of it, and it's an OCD freak's dream, but it takes time. I'll try to start sooner for next year's run, because I really enjoy launching the final guitar on New Year's Eve instead of (yawn) February 5th.

I've enjoyed reading your feedback and thoughts and POV's. And I've enjoyed feeling like it's maybe a little bit of a smaller world by being able to "hang" and shoot the sh!t about the guitars we love with you guys from around the world:

  • Australia (Ishmun)
  • Belgium (Magic Jason)
  • Canada (beej, CHill, GuyOnraet)
  • France (DrKev, fbecir, threeminutesboy, tristan klein)
  • Germany (banjoplayer, dave1812)
  • Italy (Cordarino)
  • Netherlands (jzeijen, rampage)
  • Poland (look_at_her)
  • UK (Spudmurphy, TrapperJ)
  • US - Arizona (kbaim)
  • US - California (agt, klaveguitars, xjbebop)
  • US - Connecticut (PeteDuBaldo)
  • US - Florida (GoKart Mozart, Kinjin)
  • US - Hawaii (kimonostereo)
  • US - Illinois (edhaen, Flash Gordon, Jim Warnstedt, kestrou)
  • US - Massachusetts (GWDavis28)
  • US - Michigan (Baggedcereals)
  • US - Minnesota (RobW)
  • US - New Jersey (MPM, mystixboi1)
  • US - New Mexico (radrock)
  • US - New York (smd24fan)
  • US - North Carolina (Exodus5)
  • US - Ohio (beamer128, mikeller)
  • US - Oklahoma (jlbasscatcher)
  • US - Texas (ScottO, Sweat)
  • US - Tennessee (jones4tone, KevTN)
  • US - Washington (Pott)
  • Unknown (berkleeguitar, LesPaul)

Finally, thanks to BP, Brian, Scotty, Derek, Tomas, Drew, Teri, Dudley, A.J., Joel and the rest of the good folks at EBMM who continue to dedicate themselves to creating the tools that we enjoy -- that help us make our music, help us aggravate our spouses, and bring us together as fellow Knuckleheads!

OK Jeff, enough of your babble. Let's get to the final NYNGD of 2016: NYNGD #2016-17!

Today's NYNGD is pretty special. This guitar is a stunner and totally one-of-a-kind. She was made for Summer NAMM but didn't end up making the trip and stayed at the factory. I snarfed it up. It never ends, this GAS.

This guitar has a stunning roasted flame maple top with a finish that the EBMM computer lists as "Roasted Burst", a rosewood neck and fretboard, gold hardware, large fret dots, and an interesting satin finish on the rosewood headstock (usually they're gloss). It has a standard Axis black back and basswood body (unlike my other roasted birdseye maple guitar that has a trans walnut back).

Being one-of-a-kind, totally unique, and drop dead gorgeous, this guy was the clear choice for the final guitar of the year!

And that does it for the 2016 edition of my New Years New Guitar Days (NYNGD)! It was a VERY GASsy year -- 17 guitars (plus my Gran and Grandpa's ukuleles and Grandpa's banjo that I inherited when Gran passed away earlier this year). Whew. If my wife only knew! Will 2017 be as crazy as 2016 -- only time will tell. But what I DO know is that I will continue the chase! That's the best part!

Finally, I saw that I tricked a few of you into thinking that NYNGD #2016-17 was going to be a Cutlass... I said a "future NYNGD", but not this soon! Standby for NYNGD 2017! And P.S., if anyone knows of a Cardinal Red Sparkle LIII HH for sale, PM me!

Thanks for hanging with me guys! I appreciate it! HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Regards,
Jeff

(The back story in case you're new to my NYNGD: For the past couple of years I've done a fun thing that most of you I think enjoyed, and I thought I would do it again this year. Every year, I am a slacker about keeping my Guitar Gallery up to date... So, as a fun holiday thing, let's launch a guitar in the Guitar Gallery each day leading up to New Years Eve! In the past I've received PM's about my collection and whether I play all of these guitars. :) The same question came up during my NYNGD posts a few years ago and my answer was pretty detailed and well thought-out, so please check it out here!)

(Also, in case anybody gets any funny ideas -- these guitars are not at my house. They are all in my very secure and alarmed studio facility. I usually only have two guitars floating around the house...)

Wow, what a top on this one! And the all-rosewood neck is killer. You had a fun year, sir! And to top it off, you were already teasing next year's haul before we were 5 weeks into the year... Not cool!! :p

Enjoy those guitars, Jeff!

No surprise this is the last one... Wowza... Nowhere has the Rosewood neck fit a guitar better than here.
Rock monster right there.

Thanks for this years NYNGD.
This one is beautiful too, especially the satin headstock. Don´t know if I noticed without your hint, but yeah it´s different and i like it.
My favourite this year were #1 (HH AL) and #14 (the beautiful Starry Night LIII).

The sad part is that we now have to wait a year for another full rundown of the 2017 editions.
I'll keep my eyes open for that L3
