Koa

Oh my god!
That's a Koa top.. but it has chrome hardware? And the finish doesn't look like the Island Burst which is normally used on Koa tops these days(before it was Tobacco Burst if I'm not mistaken). That looks like Ruby Burst to me. Got any details? Looks stunning!

I had originally picked up a JP6 Trans Black at Guitar Center, but after some browsing of their site I found this KOA and absolutely fell in love with the look of it. I traded my old one out for this and am amazed every day at the beauty of this guitar. I hadn't actually seen the guitar in person, as it was at a different GC, and was actually a little disappointed when I first got it. The neck was in bad shape, it was slightly warped and had a lot of fret sprout. Gotta love MM though, I called them up, they told me to send it in to them and they'd take care of it. They put a brand new neck on it and I'm back in action :)

I do have a question though, when I got the guitar back, it seems that the first E string is closer to the bottom of the neck, than the six is to the top. Is this normal? Everything appears to be straight but it seems odd to me that the strings aren't completely centered on the neck.

Some okish smart phone shots of my newly acquired 2009 Axis SS and one of my 2009 Silo Special. I picked up the Axis SS used in a trade and it oddly happened to have a SN only 213 away from my Silo (AxisSS 48100, SiloSpecial 48313) they were made within a week of each other, which is a very cool coincidence in my books!

Still getting used to the neck as I've been on the thinner/wider Silo neck for a while, but I like it... not sure it will replace my silo though ;)

Cheers!

nice neck on that one!

Thanks, yeah looks pretty good in the pics, but as always better in person! I'm actually finding the back of the neck a little rough closer to the 12th, guessing it's not supposed to be this way, don't think it was played much ever... may have to get out the oil/wax/1000 grit and see if I can smooth it out a touch!

Edit: took some 600 grit sandpaper and very gently went over the rough spots and the neck is silky smooth now amazing stuff!

I just picked up a Steve Morse Dark Lord today. I also have 2 Albert Lee HH guitars. I'll take pictures of them tomorrow and post them. The Dark Lord is AMAZING!

Just picked up an Albert Lee HH on the weekend from Long & McQuade in Toronto, such a thing of vintage retro beauty and of course it sounds/plays amazing!! Anyway I'm happy I grabbed it, perfect companion to my Silo Special ;)
