is Koa wood from hawaii? or where does it come from anyway? are we destroying the rainforest more? just asking.

A quote from Leslie Nielsen
"How can you say that? When I sank every penny I had into buying that 1,000 acres of Brazilian rain forest. Then I had it slashed and burned so we could build our dream house. And if you think it's easy displacing a tribe of pygmies, you try it sometime."

the24thfret,

I believe the law in Hawaii states that the trees have to fall down by themselves before they can be used for anything. So...no! Nobody is flocking over to the islands to just cut down Koa trees. Often there is a shortage on Koa for this very reason. I believe it may be the same for mahogany woods in certain places as well.

I b'leeb the number of new colors is less than or equal to 10 or greater than or equal to 10. :D

Damn, I hate teasing. BTW Pete, I shot you another email, not sure if you got it or not, but in 2 or 3 weeks I'm gonna see if I can drop a deposit on that Koa. I'll keep ya posted.

Phil,

Got your message at the store this evening. Further sales/export/harvesting of koa are banned - EB already has some koa on hand. Unless the laws change, once the existing supply is gone, it is gone forever.

Wow, thats nuts. Koa is such an amazing looking wood too. I'll be calling you either this week or next week to set up the deposit for the Koa JP6. Thanks for the info Pete!

There will always be the random log of koa floating around.....It is just going to get rarer and rarer. I bought a brazilan Rosewood Santa Cruz new at the show.....That stuf is like gold.

I dont want to create any artificial urgency but the fact is that you cant cut the trees and you cant export it. I also dont want to say that if Dargie finds a trreasure trove of any great wood that we wouldnt make a few more bfrs/.

Thanks for the info, Sterling! I'm calling Pete either this week or next week to order one. I've wanted one since I saw the pics. Thanks for giving me some serious GAS with these Koa's. Can't wait to get one.

Man, I hope that ebony fretboards get extended into the options available. The black looks so good with the black pickups and body. Rosewood feels great, but clashes with all the other colors happening on the axis.
