ok ...

so today i had to drag myself to SF to meet with the Emergenza dude re: my bands gig on Saturday ... so being bored afterwards i figured "hell, im in SF, ill go to Guitar Center".

So i get to GC and walk straight to the bass section. They had a decent lot. The first thing i saw was an HS Sterling. They also had a few HH SR5s, an HH SR4, some Bongos in diff. combos and a few "normal" Sterlings and SR4s.

So a dude comes over to help and asks "which one u wanna try?" to which I reply "all the EBMMs". LOL so the guy sets up a bunch of stands, gets the ladder and starts lining up basses. It was amazing.

First off, i didnt get this dude's name but hes employee of the year in my book. He helped me out like mad. He even knew what each of the positions on the 5 way switch did. As i was jamming I heard him helping some other dude with guitars and he gave, what i thought, awesome explanations to all of this dude's questions.

Anywho ... this guy was the man!

Next ... ok, the HH SR4 is genious! i have never heard anything sound that good ever (to my ears). I died ... twice. If i didnt have a Sterling in the exact color combo as the SR4 HH on order i woulda bought it. The price was good too. So ya, i want an SR4 HH ... really bad! they rule.

And yes, those who are wondering, I do think I liked the sound better than the Sterling HS ... BUT they're totally different beasts. I wish they had an HS SR4 to try out. Im thinking the SR4 w/ Stainless Steel Super Slinkys would KILL!!! Jack & Doug ... i have u guys on speed dial.

OK ... so thru all this A vs B testing (actually A B C D E F) I grabbed a few std. SR4s. they rule ... i kinda forgot!

So ya ... i want an SR4 now. Im gonna wait to get my Sterlings (at least one of em) before I buy one just in case this is one of those "Im single on valentines day i wanna cheer myself up and I have GAS to boot" kinda moments.

But anywho ... super cudos to the EB guys for making awesome basses awesomer ... and also definately wanted to say that some of the folks at GC can kick ass.

time to drink

+1 for GC SF! After the initial crap experience with the brain-dead-pseudo-surfer-dude (the day before I bought the Stealth Bongo...elsewhere), I have found GC SF's service to have improved by a huge margin!

I don't know what ever happened with Spicoli...

It's stories like this that make me glad I'm a lefty, I would have went nuts, bought too many basses at once and OD'ed! I'm an impulse buyer, ask Jack, I would have bought all three leftys on the Feb 13 shelf list if it hadn't had two that I already have... well, if that Sterling had been natural or Trans Gold I'd have bought it too...but.

Phatty, I have dreams like your story... except the sales guy looks different, well it's not a guy... :D

Phat's GC

Hey,

It is great to hear (read) that you had a good experience at your local GC. During my last experience, I was actually the salesperson!

Say,

When is the CEO going to be on this forum posting with us? Did I miss it?

That dude is thinking [to unmercifully strain a word] like Dubyuh. What, his handlers only let him participate in a thoroughly vetted forum?

Seriously, I think even those who might be most ready to get out of hand would be more restrained if the target of their barbs were present and participating, rather than some abstract figure.

It wasn't heat.

Let's try to move on and let that issue remain dead.

Apparently, some people missed this post, so I thought I'd let it appear on the second page, too....

Ok I have started my response and erased it three times.

Why did some of you feel that he had an obligaton to be here?

Why did it have to be a place with heat?

Why do you assume that he chickened out?

The most powerful man in the music business offered to come here. I uninvitied him. He would still do it for me as a FAVOR. I can't guaratee that he would treated respectfully.

Some of you hate Guitar Center. Fine. Some of you cant just express their dislike once.

Why invite my biggest customer and personal friend here after what has transpired.

This is not open for discussion. If you have opinions on this post them on talk bass or the dude pit, not here. I am extremely serious about this.

I say give that salesman a raise! That's the kind of customer service that you won't find in most Mom & Pops let alone a large chain store.

BP, I sure hope you pass this information along to your friend.
