I'd only hesitate to do a mod like that because I have such a high turnover rate with all of my gear. If I found something that I knew would stick around forever, I wouldn't hesitate to make it exactly as I wanted.

Hello fellow formites - I hope you are all doing well.

I dropped off Oinky at Noll Guitars in Cranston, Rhode Island today. I'm having a killswitch installed like Eddie has on his model that he's been seen playing out with.

I ordered a Sanwa arcade button:

 I would not have the gut to start such mod on a 2000 bucks guitar

For such kill switch I would go for a footswitch cause then it will work for all your guitars, but if this mod is ok for you then go for it :)

This too is a great idea :)

Yikes. * Make sure you keep the piece they cut out! :)
Make for a nice cavity cover on the back if your going all the way through.

As for modifying the guitar... if you are an owner /player - you modify the tool to fit your needs. if you are a collector you dont.
in the end even if you resell - you only need one buyer to dig your mod.

I routed out my old Amber Axis, under the Floyd so it would float.
Well worth the money to be able to use a Floyd to its full capability!

Will do it again on next Amber!

Wow, Tollie. That's gonna take some guts to do that to poor old Oinky. I don't think I could do that to Ms. Piggy. I was wondering, couldn't you put the kill switch closer to the volume knob? That way you wouldn't have to route out the back in another spot.

Thanks for all the love, guys...

Well, of course the placement and the project in general is really just a nod to Eddie. That being said, I moved the blue tape dot to different areas and played guitar while pretending to hit the switch (blue dot). The final location works for both hands and is out of the path of my picking hand.

Oh, and Gio went to Noll Guitar yesterday, but they hadn't started on Oinky yet. Jim is looking for a different internal switch before he drills any holes.

A video game switch is "always off" until you hit the button, turning it "on" and making Mario jump. (Ya with me so far, mTrejo?) That switch sits inside of the pink enclosure. Jim needs a switch that is "always on", so you can hear the music until the button is pressed, thus turning the guitar's signal "off".

Do you think its worth getting in touch with Gibson to see if they sell the switch on on Buckethead guitar as a spare part? You could at least raid the internals!

Okay gotcha. It would probably be too difficult to use if it was by the volume knob. Especially with trem arm hanging there. No matter where it goes, it's going to be a cool mod.

I don't know how it would affect the sound while it's not being used, but you could connect the switch in parallel with the output. Basically grounding the output every time you press it.
