Jay...I just got the work order for your guitar from Aziah. When we get the new body we check the fit, and if needed we will route out the neck socket. I also soak the corners of the neck pocket with super glue. Let me know how you like the guitar set up and I will dial it in for you.

Jon

thanks Jon.
I set all my guitars up myself so when you get the guitar back (I'm UPS-ing it today) that is how I like it setup pretty much. The closest you can get to how the action and setup is when it gets to you would save me that much time and effort when I get it back on my end, so thanks!

Also, here's a quirk of mine. On any guitar using a middle pickup I dial it all the way down (or pretty far at least) as it interferes a tad with my picking sometimes. The Luke was no exception so I took out the plastic spacers under the EMG in the middle. It helped some but still didn't get as low as I would like. So you can leave those 2 spacers out if you want or even route that middle hole out more but that might be too big a hassle. Anyway, on my end the 2 spacers are comin' out so you might see what you could do about that.
thanks much for your time...
Jay

Jon,

As far as the Quilt to p on my axis goes, would they get one comparable when the body is replaced? how does that work? Would I chance getting a quilt not as good as the one I have now?

Unless your guitar has the upgraded top, it's luck of the draw. If you paid for an upgraded top, we would replace it with another.

We can still paint guitars purple. What type of concern do you have with the body?

This is why there is no better guitar company in the world. This made me smile since Jon did similar for me. Awesome!!!

Rock On!

I seem to have the same stress cracks, I'm not sure if they were there when I bought it. There is also an imperfection in the sanding on the face on the top cut away. I feel like an ass complaining though... Damn sweet instrument regardless. I think my guitar sat in the store for quite sometime and unfortunately, I think it suffered some neglect. Even the hardware was kind of tarnished looking. I would be kind of scared about replacement. I like the more subdued looking quilt tops... like what I have.

I am currently waiting on my second replacement body for my Sil Special which somehow managed to crack a second time. I should note that I don't gig my EBMM guitars and they are stored with other instruments which have showed no ill effects, including my EBMM Van Halen model which is in amazing shape bearing in mind I've had it for more than ten years.

Originally, the question was asked, are other people living with these cracks? I'm sorry, but I can't on mine. These are high quality instruments and the neck pockets should not be cracking. I have a battered strat that I use for travelling (I work overseas most of the year) and rehearsals etc. but my Sil should be in pristine condition as I only play it at home. I know this is the MM forum, but I am unhappy with the customer service I received this time around and am hopeful my new body will be the last time I have to deal with them. I was so annoyed by their implying that I was trying to get something which I did not deserve that I actually considered selling my Sil and EVH model and having nothing more to do with the company (I calmed down and regained my sanity shortly afterwards...).

Time will tell if the problem is sorted out this time, but I would just like to add one more point - I think EBMM make amazing guitars and I would recommend them to anyone. However, even though they will replace bodies etc if faults arise, I have been without my guitar for a second extended period (I live in the UK so these things take time) and I think the company has to take this into account when they deal with problems like this which impact on the customers enjoyment of what should be fantastic instruments. Sorry to moan guys but this has been very annoying

Understandable the frustration you must have. I can't be away from mine for more than a few days without twitching.

I've always felt EB does the best they can to keep us happy (short of actually figuring out a way of preventing stress cracks in the first place ;) ).

I also think this is the right place to air these things as 1. others may have experienced similar, and 2. it brings it to the attention of the company.

I'm a fan of both the company and the people I've met personally (jon, tyler, jerry, dennis, dennis's wife) that work(ed) there. I've been playing for around 33 years now, and I've never enjoyed it as much as I do now since I've been playing Lukes.

which brings us to 'this' question. As I asked Jon "what do you do to prevent the cracks from happening again?" He answered with the superglue fix and a slight enlargement of the neck cavity. (I've also wondered if the paint was just 'slightly' over into the neck cavity and touching the neck and thus caused my crack as the neck shifted or expanded and slightly came into contact with the paint in the area where the crack is... hmmm.)

But nevertheless my question,
how many times will Jon and the guys repair/replace a body if the neck crack keeps happening?
I don't see anybody wanting to keep replacing their bodies as they just get the same color everytime so you wouldn't think they would want to 'abuse' the system but...

How many times for repairing and replacing is the record Jon?
Are you gonna tell us "some guy sent his back 4 times and we fixed it 4 times" or
something?

I'd say if you replaced the same guitar twice my hat goes off to you guys!

And here's hoping my repaired Luke holds!!!

(speaking of that, as I've said I have another limited Luke w/piezo in the envy green that I've had no problems with whatsoever. So go figure...)

Could you all stop going on about stress cracks? I'm getting all paranoid ;)

Seriously, if either of my EBMMs gets a stress crack do Strings and Things actually ship it back to the factory, or is there a repair place in Europe they subcontract to.

Hopefully neither the Luke or Axis will be affected.

Now to wait another 6 weeks for the Luke to arrive. Given the current 10 month wait on the AAA tops, I'm hoping the Axis will be here by my birthday.....28th October ;) :D Gives me time to spread out the payments and hope the wife believes my story that I bought both second hand

Just do what they do when you notice a new dress....

when they ask "is that new?"

your response... "this old thing?" ;)

Hey Eddie,

That guitar sat at Long & McQuade in Ottawa for at least four years before you got it amigo, and I can atest that they didn't go out of their way to care for it or set it up before sending it out west... I played that guitar a handful of times while it was here, and the strings just kept getting grottier and the set-up just kept getting worse... They keep humidifiers running on the floor under the guitar wall there, which really doesn't help matters. They've got a gorgeous silver sparkle Sport there still that's fallen into neglect - I would have grabbed it long ago, but it's a lefty...

As for the finish cracks, I've got them on a couple of mine, but I would never let someone replace my guitar's body over a cosmetic issue. I know some people feel otherwise, and I understand it completely, but my thinking is that if I have an axe that I love, with tone and feel I'm happy with, I don't want to take the risk of getting back something that doesn't quite sound the same because it's made from a completely different piece of wood... my 2¢...

Yeah, I just talked to them yesterday and they said I have several options. First they want to make sure it is just cosmetic. They said I can have a new guitar off the self or get the body replaced or they can possibly refinish the current body. Have to wait to hear back from them. They said they will do whatever it takes to make me happy! Great peeps at L&M and EBMM!

Just to let you know, Strings and Things ship everything back to the US (as far as I know and having been through this twice now!!) I will say that Strings and Things have been fantastic to deal with - they arranged a courier to pick the guitar up on the same day I called them and they have actually stepped in and taken my side when I had my dispute with EBMM customer services. Hopefully, none of you guys will suffer this same problem (or you won't care if you do, as some members have posted).
