Nice one!

Got to love the 20th with piezo and trem, I've got it's twin :)

Do you notice that there's a significant tone difference? The RW with piezo seems to be brighter than the maple without!. I've tried all sorts of tricks. From adjusting the pickup levels to even individually adjusting the pole pieces. now my RW on it's own is balanced, and is quite nice, but the bridge pickup is much brighter than the neck. While on the maple, the difference is more subtle, but more organic. The RW one seems more harsh.

I can't help but think that it's because of the piezo saddles. that kills the bass response at the bridge pickup.

I ABed the maple with the RW, and the maple has bass response from BOTH positions. really great piece! The RW, was a bit disappointing, because I expected the same performance. But now after adjusting it, I think the RW has more tonal differences. I'll have to try it in a band situation before I can tell whether or not there's really less bass in the bridge...:(

Maybe I should hunt for one more RW with no piezo, and a hardtail... Heh...

I've only got the one, (RW, trem, piezo mhs) so I've never been able to compare.

I think there will always be differences between two guitars and especially with the hardtail vs trem that you've got there. The saddles are different on the two, which many people have noted as making a difference with the sound, plus you've got the cut-out for the trem which will affect the overall tonal response. Also, with the rosewood model, you've got all the mass of the trem block to affect the response.

It's good that they sound different, it makes them individual. Plus it justifies buying two :D

Both mine are Trem. I don't have a hardtail, which is probably why I want one... Heh. So, it's safe to say that it's probably the saddles which gives a different sound.

But, my JP6 with piezo has a more mellow bridge tone. So, I'm not sure the saddles makes that much a different in brightness. However, the JP6 is basswood, and the Steve's Special I installed is a different animal compared to the Virtual Hot PAF. So that's not a fair statement.

It really took my quite a bit of fiddling before I got a decently good tone on the bridge. I'm spoilt by the maple one (which is warmer sounding than my RW!!!)

You can replace the A5 magnet in the bridge pickup with a A2 magnet & or replace 500k pots with 250k one's, both very easy to do. It will take the brightness/harshness away.
Many people prefer the A2 mag/250k pots for their Dimarzio VHPAF bridge pickups

Sound interesting... What A5 mag? How can it be replaced?

My maple one has 500k pots, and it's nice and warm. I'm surprised that the RW one is so bright. You sure it's not the saddles?

Lionel, glad to hear you're enjoying the 20th! The both of them look great in the pics, way better than the RW one looked in pics when I owned it. Haha. I hope you enjoy that gorgeous instrument and it was truly a pleasure dealing with you. Many thanks my friend.

Nice set of balls there.

I tried out a 20th Anniversary Silo the other day, nice axe, l enjoyed playing it, put it beside the Luke and Axis, l got great cleans from the Silo, better cleans than the Axis, but not as good as the Luke, the neck was nice, better than the Axis, but as l'm so used of the Luke, l preferred that neck, but all round, it looked sexy, play nice, and sounded great, nice damn axes.

No matter what colour you paint it, active or not, you can NEVER get better clean tones from a humbucker than a single coil. heh. But the middle position on the JP6 comes close...:D
