Ordered Cutlass replacement nut from EBMM, tips for swapping the old one out?

Hey guys as the title says I ordered a black nut to replace my white nut on my cutlass RS. I’ve never done a nut replacement before and I’m having a hard time finding someone I can trust in the area to do it properly.

Is this something I can do myself? Do replacement nuts from Ernie Ball still need the slots sanded? There’s an O shaped protrusion on the bottom of the nut so I’m wondering if it’s as easy as scoring the edges and tapping the old one out. Any ideas?
