I've never played the original model, but absolutely love the SM-Y2D. It still has a dark tone (even with the maple cap) producing a warmer tone than the Luke to my ears. But, some twang can still be dialed in. I originally had the Floyd model, but sold it for the TonePros Hardtail and I'm much happier. For tremolo playing I much prefer the Luke and JP systems than a Floyd.
