I am speaking from one night of playing my upfright when drunk.

My wife went home and got it at an Irish Pub. One guitar player playing an acoustic amplified.

I had to guess at the bass lines and must have done a good job. My very old upright carried the room even though I am lost without frets.

I play what I hear and that is why I play TI Jazz flats on my EB basses.

I would prefer to carry the Bongo or the SR 5 to any gig.

I did one while drunk on the upright and owned the house in some ways.

You gotta stand up to an acoustic guitar you need an electric bass or a double bass IMHO.

The music only sounds good when you bring what you need to the gig.

IMHO

My shop has a brand new Michael Kelly dragonfly 4 fretless in trans black right now.

I just loaded it up with D'adarrio chromes and it's super sweet.

It's not as chea as a used one on ebay, but it's brand new and you'd be supporting independant music stores! :D

email me: joel_at_tweeks.org if you are interested or have any questions.

these is nice basses and i guess lots of big names use them for their acoustic needs.

thanks!

There was an interview in one of the bass magazines last month with the violent femmes bass player and he talked at length about his earthwood. That may be a good reference.

I've been playing this Turner Model One BP all week...kind of a hybrid...different breed all together...and not cheap...not even in the realm of "reasonable" at $4,200!! But it's a sweetie for sure!!

That's why I'm doing what I'm doing mostly. I'm not sure if this Tuner really qualifies as an "acoustic" bass or not. Even though it is constructed like an acoustic (bent sides and internal bracing) it has to be played amplified. It sure is a beauty and capable of a wide range of tones with the new piezo/mag blend feature. It's a very "different" bass to be sure and takes some getting used to.

The violent Femmes CD was recorded with an Earthwood. The last bass player with the VF guy on the cover has a sidebar about the Earthwood bass and a little story about BP.

Just put that issue in my suitcase to read that article by the pool Dargie! I think I may have to scout out an Earthwood.
