Hi all,

Been down without electricity or phone since around 6pm Thursday thanks to hurricane Katrina (no A/C, no fan, no stove, no refridgerator, no hot water, yada, yada, yada...). We just got power and phones back this afternoon. Today is my wife's birthday. She took it pretty much in stride, but I was feeling bad for her. We have been through this before with hurricane Andrew when we lived down in Miami back in 1992 (again around her birthday :( ). We were without power for 3 weeks after Andrew!!!

Anyway, we went out for dinner to the Melting Pot in a city about 15 miles away with some friends who live north of us. Seems that Katrina took a turn to the south at the last minute. It was originally coming straight at where we live!

We had a lot of shingles fly off the condo roofs and two of the buildings still don't have power. A huge Mango tree near my wife's car fell over from the storm and landed on the transformer for those two buildings. They will have to come out with a crane and chain saw to get it out then fix/replace the transformer. We were lucky it did not crush any buildings, cars or people.

Oh, well just another happy hurricane season in sunny Florida :D

I lived in southern California for 5 years and I would rather have the warning of a hurricane coming vs a surprising earthquake (been there!!!... )

Just glad to be back :)

Hey I'm glad you are ALIVE!, This storm looks bad and slow... even worse! We should get our part of it around Tuesday, but we need the rain, hopefully that's all we'll get.

Happy B-day to your wife and I hope the Melting Pot was fun, what a deal, you pay to cook your own food! :D

Hey Ant!
My wife and I live in Boynton Beach. Hope all is ok with you guys down in FtL......we got spared this storm, last year we had some damage and lost lots of trees, swingset, shingles, etc. No power for a week the first storm (Jeanne?), 24 hours for the last. I work for Bellsouth so OT was mandatory for 4 months. That's what bought my 'Ray....

P.S.
I love the Melting Pot....you went to Boca right?

Hi Psyc,

Hope you only get rain also, the winds can be very nasty.

Wife still had a nice B-day, she is a real sweetie. Never asks for much, happy with what she gets, that's why I go out of my way to spoil her :)

Melting pot was fun -- expensive, but fun.

Hey there neighbor!

Boyton is a nice area. I live in Davie and I work in Boca on Congress and Yamato.

Yeah, last year was crazy!!! We left Ft Lauderdale for 3 of the storms and they all followed us up to my brother-in-laws place in Lake Placid Florida!!! Their place got damaged all 3 times. But thank God we are alive.

Melting Pot is always fun. We usually go there for our anniversary, but she wanted to go for her birthday this time. We went to the one in Coral Springs on Sample Road. When we lived in North Miami, we went to the one in Sunny Isles on 167th just east of US 1 (Federal) by the intercoastal.

Take care.

I've often traveled to Central & Gulf Coast Florida in August (here now). While we've not been impacted outside of some super rainfall, we've seen the devastation up close.

I am in awe of Mother Nature.

Glad things went better than they could have for you - and a Happy Birthday to your lady! :)

Ah Katrina is going to ruin my vacation. I'm down in South Carolina, in Kiawah, gofling with my dad for two weeks before I go away to school. This shouldn't be too fun. Oh yeah, glad you're back. Hopefully we shouldn't get anything that bad around here.

PS Shot a 78 on Osprey Point today!
