Hi all,
Been down without electricity or phone since around 6pm Thursday thanks to hurricane Katrina (no A/C, no fan, no stove, no refridgerator, no hot water, yada, yada, yada...). We just got power and phones back this afternoon. Today is my wife's birthday. She took it pretty much in stride, but I was feeling bad for her. We have been through this before with hurricane Andrew when we lived down in Miami back in 1992 (again around her birthday
). We were without power for 3 weeks after Andrew!!!
Anyway, we went out for dinner to the Melting Pot in a city about 15 miles away with some friends who live north of us. Seems that Katrina took a turn to the south at the last minute. It was originally coming straight at where we live!
We had a lot of shingles fly off the condo roofs and two of the buildings still don't have power. A huge Mango tree near my wife's car fell over from the storm and landed on the transformer for those two buildings. They will have to come out with a crane and chain saw to get it out then fix/replace the transformer. We were lucky it did not crush any buildings, cars or people.
Oh, well just another happy hurricane season in sunny Florida
I lived in southern California for 5 years and I would rather have the warning of a hurricane coming vs a surprising earthquake (been there!!!...
)
Just glad to be back
