Heh. I just realized I posted about closing on the forum before I called my Dad. Is that healthy?

Adwex--Don't get me wrong. I am very happy with this house--freshly finished hardwoods, new roof, new kitchen, walk in closets in every room, and priced about 12% below the market we moved into. One of the reasons we didn't move to NY--the money goes so much further down here.

My guitar player is about 1 mile down the road, and one of my best friends, Dave, is about 2 miles away. Muggsy--we're near the Seminary School in Decatur. Our address is Decatur, but we're in unincorporated Dekalb, so no city taxes.

Stanky--I do, indeed, plan on having the Ernie Ball crew over once everything is set up. I can't guarantee Luscious, or a Paul Prudhomme trained chef, but I'll have a PS3. :D

I'm glad your house is still making you happy, Ray. I know the gold Bongo 4H was sold when you got your house, and it has now been sold by me when I got a house. I guess it's a lucky Bongo, in addition to being an absolute killer player.

I get to spend the weekend painting before a 4 hour gig on Saturday night. Ah, the joys of home ownership (that's officially the first time I've said that). ;)

Don't worry Jason, I'm well on my way to owning every tool. Even ones that I have no idea how to use!

I bought my first house when I was 24 and we just sold it this Monday. Lived there for 12 years, improved everything.. it's like a new house. Now we bought a bigger house and we've started all over again!

Home ownership is a nightmare at times, but well worth those isolated moments.

Congrats on the new diggs! Home ownership is way better than pissing $ away on rent or apartments, and no one to bother or be bothered by. Looks like a cool place too. Now you can yell at kids to get off your lawn.

Congrats! houses are money pits but way better than pissing away rent.
(that's what I keep telling myself). Appears you're getting in at the right
time if the market has softened like it did here.

NJ prices are also insane . .
I have a lovely little town next to me were you can't even get a 2BR cape for
$500k, & taxes over 10k. I can't even stand up straight on the 2nd floor!

My wife grew up in Cranbury N.J. (outside Princeton/Plainsboro), but we could never live there. My inlaws pay more a month in taxes than I do for my mortgage! It's nice there though. Bassmonkee, I love Atlanta. I was there two years ago for a week to visit this gigantic Church, when I worked full time at mine. Very nice city. Congrats.

Congratulations, Jason! It's great owning a house. My wife & I bought our first house (which is still our current house) 4 years ago. Now we're looking for something bigger since we now have 2 kids and need an extra room for an office/music room. Plus, we want to move back into Baton Rouge itself & not just the 'burbs.

As a kid, I never would have thought I'd be changing electrical outlets, hanging ceiling fans, installing new garbage disposals, taking the dryer apart, having a need for things like leaf blowers, wet/dry shop vacs, etc. My, how times can change! :D

Congrats on a fine looking home there Jason. You do know however that white Bongo won't look good hanging on the wall there.

Enjoy the new home.

Congrats!

One of the smartest things I ever did was buy a house as soon as I possibly could.

One of the others was paying off the mortgage as soon as I possibly could.

It now costs me about $4500 PER YEAR to live there.

Which leaves me more money to buy musical toys.

Hot tip: Take your mortgage payment and just send in an extra hundred bucks a month (or whatever...round it up to the next hundred...whatever you can manage). You'll get used to the minimally larger payment and won't even notice it after a little while. Do the math...you'll be amazed at how much sooner you'll have it paid off.

No landlord...bliss!

Do what adouglas said with the extra $ toward the mortgage...

but BE SURE TO DESIGNATE THAT THE EXTRA GOES TO PRINCIPAL!

Otherwise, your money could be applied as prepaid interest or excess escrow.
