Sad news - the guy is loved all over the world.

His legacy was to instill the interests of wildlife, nature and just cause, into the hearts of many a young person, and this spark will flourish as his memory lives on.

RIP "Crocodile Man"

From what I can make of the reports, it was a whip lash effect as the Ray took off. It must have become frightened somehow.

Pretty sad news :(

Apparently it was a real freak of an accident. The barb actually punctured his lung... which alleged experts have never heard of... so pretty freaky

Rare...but not completely unheard of:

"Penetrating cardiac injuries have generally been fatal. In 1938, an adult women died after a stab wound to the heart by a stingray. The autopsy showed that the ventricles had been completely transfixed by the barb. An Australian soldier died in 1945 after a stab wound to the left heart, sustained while swimming in seawater baths near Melbourne, Victoria."

I feel terrible for his family.

thats really sad...

he was one of the few who brought the wonderful world of animals and nature to the forefront.. and let us indulge into worlds of animals , half of us will prob. never know...

its so sad when we loose people who try to teach and inform us about things we should respect and not fear..

may he rest in peace and as a avid fellow animal lover!! my condolences sincerely

Prayers to his family and friends.

I loved watching him jump on alligators and what not. Dude was so into the animals and trying to teach the world that we all need to live together. Great person in what he was doing. RIP....:(

We were shocked to learn of it. A true TV innovator with his style. Screw NBC for airing a contentious interview this morning from '04 with Matt Lauer regarding the thing about him feeding the crock with baby Bob in his other arm. Damn insensitve a-holes.

yeah the media is pretty f#cked in these sort of circumstances.. sensationalise the issue... and thereby give the bloke's family no peace.

Screw the media and the reading world. This Man's family is going to hear forever more what he did for this world.

Those kids won't get a hug from dad.

That bites and sucks and anything else I could throw at it for words.

I don't understand. It happened.

I was also shocked and very sad to hear the news. I loved his shows and all of his enthusiasm about animals. All my best goes out to his family and those two darling kids. Truly a very sad loss.
